3 Best Movies To Watch On Disney+ This Weekend (May 9-10)

Disney+ has a great selection of movies to watch this weekend, and I recently checked out three very different options: The Princess Diaries, We Bought A Zoo, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. These films offer something for everyone and were all available to stream last weekend.

As of today, Spider-Man: Homecoming is the 8th most popular movie on Disney+ in the US, recently joining the platform’s top movies. This made me think it would be a good time to revisit some of the best films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And with a new Marvel movie currently in theaters, Spider-Man: Homecoming feels like the perfect pairing to stream this weekend.

Besides those Marvel releases, there are two other shows worth watching on the streaming service. They’re both different from superhero movies, offering some variety. One is a completely original story, and the other is part of the iconic Star Wars saga.

If you’re planning a movie night on Disney+ this weekend, either of these new releases would be a great choice. Or, if you’re feeling ambitious, watching all three will definitely give you an exciting and magical experience! Here are our top picks for this weekend:

3. Send Help (2026)

A new thriller, Send Help, arrived on Disney+ internationally and Hulu (via Disney+) in the US on May 7th. Directed by Sam Raimi, known for his dynamic style, the movie is a fast-paced survival story. Its direction, writing, and performances all work together to keep things exciting from beginning to end.

This survival thriller stars Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien as two plane crash survivors stranded on a deserted island. Their situation is complicated by a strained relationship – Dylan O’Brien’s character is the boss of Rachel McAdams’ character, creating a power imbalance that fuels the story. Send Help builds suspense through both their difficult connection and the mysterious secrets hidden on the island, resulting in a thrilling and unusual adventure.

2. Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)

If you haven’t seen Deadpool & Wolverine yet, now’s a great time! Or, if you’ve already seen it, it’s perfect for a rewatch, especially with Hugh Jackman’s new movie, The Sheep Detectives, now playing in theaters. Deadpool & Wolverine is the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, and it pairs nicely with his latest film.

Deadpool & Wolverine is exactly the kind of movie the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga needed. It really embraces the idea of the multiverse, using it to create thrilling settings, alternate versions of fan-favorite characters, and even bringing back actors from previous films – like Chris Evans reprising his role as the Human Torch. Currently, the film boasts a fantastic 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

1. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999)

Currently, the only movie from our list gaining traction on Disney+ in the US is Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. It’s the second most-watched film on the platform nationwide, making it a great choice for a weekend watch. As the first installment in the Star Wars saga, it’s perfect to enjoy after May the 4th and before The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theaters on May 22nd.

With the recent Star Wars sequels sparking so much debate, The Phantom Menace offers a refreshing return to the franchise’s roots. It shows how Anakin Skywalker’s story began, and features strong performances from Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, and Natalie Portman. It’s a great choice for a relaxing weekend watch on Disney+, guaranteed to leave you feeling amazed and inspired.
