Be warned: This article reveals major plot details from episode 6, “Though the Heavens Fall,” of The Boys season 5. If you haven’t watched it yet, you may want to avoid reading further.
As The Boys nears its conclusion, there’s a lot riding on the show to provide a good ending. While some episodes have sparked debate, the series has already managed to avoid a key issue that hurt the finale of Stranger Things. Because The Boys is known for its violence and shocking moments, expectations are high for its final season.
The show focuses on strong storytelling and characters, but viewers were hoping for high-stakes action, particularly after the dramatic ending of season four. The season five premiere didn’t disappoint, kicking things off with a powerful start and delivering several major moments, including the surprising and impactful death of A-Train, who died a hero while saving the team – a fitting end to his journey of growth.
Things have calmed down a bit, but the ending of The Boys season 5, episode 6 changed everything. Soldier Boy gave Homelander V-One, which means the heroes’ original plan to defeat him is now useless. This sets up a dangerous and action-packed finale, and luckily, season 5 has already shown us that no one is safe – several major characters have already died.
Only five months ago, some viewers felt the final season of Stranger Things didn’t take enough risks, with few major characters actually dying and even Eleven’s apparent sacrifice leaving room for her survival. This left many fans disappointed. However, The Boys seems determined not to repeat that mistake, opting for a much more brutal approach.
The main group is still alive, though A-Train was killed off in the first episode. Two members of the Seven – Firecracker and Black Noir – were killed by people on their own side. Several other, less prominent supes, including Cindy, Love Sausage, and Maverick, have also died, showing that anyone could be in danger this season.
Antony Starr Has Hinted There Are More Big Deaths To Come In The Boys’ Final Episodes
Following the shocking death of Firecracker in season 5, episode 5 of The Boys, the quick loss of Black Noir just one episode later signals a dramatic shift in the show’s approach. Rather than being careful with its characters, The Boys seems determined to eliminate major players each episode, a trend even hinted at by actor Antony Starr.
The actor who plays Homelander recently complained about a popular show that just finished, saying it didn’t have enough character deaths. In an interview with Wired, he stated, “There’s nowhere else to go, kill some people,” which many fans interpreted as a dig at Stranger Things.
Whether or not he was specifically talking about Stranger Things, his point is that shows in this genre shouldn’t be predictable with their endings. This suggests The Boys will have more major character deaths, and with several villains and original team members still alive, those deaths could happen soon.
Leading up to the release of season 5, reports suggest the finale will be explosive, with a significantly more powerful Homelander likely killing major characters before ultimately being taken down. It’s clear The Boys is trying to avoid the criticism leveled at Stranger Things – where some felt the ending didn’t live up to the hype.
It’s likely some characters will die in a way that’s upsetting for viewers, but that’s preferable to a story where nothing feels truly at risk. Considering what the creators have said and where the show is heading, the last two episodes will probably be full of surprises and shocking events.
Predicting Who Else Will Die Before The Boys Ends
As the season nears its end with only two episodes left, it’s easy to think most of the remaining characters will survive, but quite a few are actually in danger. The character most likely to die is Homelander. While he could still win, it’s far more probable that he’ll be killed off.
He’s undoubtedly one of the last truly wicked villains remaining, and viewers have been waiting for him to face consequences for nearly five seasons. Any outcome where he wins would feel incredibly bleak. Similarly, The Deep has consistently been the most spineless character in the series, so it’s hard to imagine him surviving to the end.
These two characters have been hilarious and given us so many funny moments, but they deserve consequences for their actions. Sadly, some of the good guys are also in danger. While anyone could potentially die, MM, Frenchie, and Kimiko seem to be at the highest risk, especially since an upcoming episode’s title mentions all three of them.
It’s possible the show is deliberately leading us to believe these characters are in danger, and the strong focus on them suggests they might all die in the same event. Considering the upcoming confrontation between Homelander and Butcher in season 5, Butcher also seems likely to die, especially since he’s already compromised his own values in his pursuit of the Seven’s leader.
He’s willing to sacrifice himself to kill Homelander, and even if he wins, he’s already escaped death so many times that he’s still in serious danger. While any main character could potentially die in season 5 of The Boys, characters like Starlight and Hughie are much less likely to die than others.
