Since its release in 2018, Subnautica has become one of the most popular survival games of the last ten years. Fans have eagerly awaited its sequel, Subnautica 2, which was first announced in 2024. The game faced some development challenges, creating uncertainty about its release. However, Unknown Worlds is now ready to launch Subnautica 2 into Early Access on May 14th, and recently shared a detailed look at the gameplay.
As a huge fan, I was so excited to watch Unknown Worlds’ preview of Subnautica 2 on YouTube on May 9th! They finally showed us a lot more of what we can expect when the game hits Early Access on PC through Steam and Xbox Game Preview next week. The best part was the new gameplay trailer – it looks like they’re building on everything that made the first Subnautica so great, but also adding a ton of fresh, new stuff to explore. I can’t wait!
Subnautica 2 Gameplay Trailer Shows Off New Tools, Creatures, and Co-Op
Even with some setbacks and legal issues, Subnautica 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest game releases of 2026. Over 300,000 players have already added it to their Steam wishlists! The game promises a brand-new underwater survival experience, taking place on a different alien planet than the first Subnautica. We’ve seen glimpses of this new world in early trailers, but until recently, we hadn’t seen much actual gameplay footage for the highly anticipated sequel.
A new gameplay trailer for Subnautica 2 was revealed today, giving fans a glimpse of the game’s story and some of its features, both old and new. The trailer showcased new tools, weapons, and the unique alien creatures players will encounter. Though brief, it’s packed with details about what to expect when Subnautica 2 enters Early Access on May 14th. You can watch the trailer below.
Beyond the impressive visual upgrades from the original game, this trailer reveals a key new feature in Subnautica 2: cooperative gameplay. You’ll notice multiple divers throughout the trailer, showcasing the ability to play with up to four friends. While Subnautica 2 will be available as a single-player experience like the first game, it will also support co-op on both PC and Xbox during Early Access.
The recent showcase for Subnautica 2 included in-game rewards for early players and interviews with the developers, offering a deeper look at the game. The showcase featured a lot of gameplay footage, making the replay worth watching. Subnautica 2 will launch in Early Access on May 14th for $29.99.
