For decades, fans have been eager for a sequel to this beloved horror film. They campaigned online, creating and signing petitions that gained thousands of signatures, and eventually, their wish came true. However, the sequel didn’t live up to expectations, even with half of the original actors returning. Now, just a few years later, it appears those same actors are gearing up for a third installment.
Disney is developing a third Hocus Pocus movie, with Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy expected to return as the Sanderson sisters, according to Deadline. Talk of a sequel started in 2023 when Midler mentioned a great script had been written and that producers were working out the details. However, progress stalled after Scott Bailey, who was a key executive at Walt Disney Studios, left the company.
Hocus Pocus 3 Will Need To Clean Up the Previous Movie’s Mess

Disney is being very secretive about the story of the third Hocus Pocus movie. All that’s known so far is that the original actresses will reprise their roles as the Sanderson sisters. The first film tells the story of these witches, who were put on trial for witchcraft in the 1600s after kidnapping a child. Three hundred years later, they’re accidentally brought back to Salem by some teenagers, and they try to complete their evil plans. The first movie quickly became a beloved classic, and fans have been eager for a follow-up ever since.
The follow-up film was released in 2022. Although critics liked it more than the original, many fans were disappointed, feeling it lacked the charm that made the first movie so special after a 30-year wait. Hopefully, the next installment will be closer in spirit to the original, as several actors from the first film, including Thora Birch and Jason Marsden, have expressed interest in returning.
