Nintendo Switch 2 Nears 20 Million Units Sold, But Fiscal Year 2027 Forecast is Down

Despite reports of production cuts in the US and announced price hikes for the Switch 2, Nintendo isn’t facing major struggles less than a year after the console’s launch. The latest financial report shows they’ve sold 19.86 million units as of March 31st, 2026, including 2.49 million units in the last three months.

Nintendo’s software sales were strong, reaching 10.78 million units, boosted by games like Pokémon Pokopia, which sold over four million copies. However, the company predicts a decrease in Switch 2 sales for the fiscal year 2027, forecasting an 11.4 percent drop in net sales and a 20.7 percent decrease in overall profit.

Okay, so the Nintendo Switch 2 flew off the shelves when it first came out – way more people bought it right away compared to previous consoles. Because of that huge initial rush and some price adjustments, we’re expecting sales to dip a bit next year. But honestly, even with that dip, we think it’s still going to be doing really well – a solid number of players picking it up in its second year. It’s a good sign for the console!

The Nintendo Switch has now sold over 155.92 million units in total, with 550,000 consoles sold just this past quarter. Game sales also performed well, reaching 27.98 million units during the same period.

The price of the new Switch 2 will increase on different dates depending on the region. In Japan, the price will rise to ¥59,980 starting May 25th. For customers in the United States, Canada, and Europe, the new price of $499.99, $679.99 CAD, or €499.99 will take effect starting September 1st. While the price is going up, Nintendo is giving buyers in these regions more time to purchase at the original price compared to what Xbox and PlayStation offered when they raised their prices. We’ll share more information as it becomes available.
