Charlize Theron Shares Rare Photos of Her Daughters for Mother’s Day

Charlize Theron may be an Oscar winner, but her most rewarding role? Mom.

Charlize Theron recently talked about being a mom to her daughters, Jackson, 14, and August, 11.

Charlize Theron shared some sweet and uncommon photos with her children on Instagram for Mother’s Day, May 10th. The pictures showed them relaxing together – including a cute naptime moment on a boat, sunny selfies, and a fun day exploring the city.

She called it the greatest honor of her life in a post wishing a Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers, grandmothers, and godmothers.

Being a mother to her sons, Jackson and August (adopted in 2012 and 2015), has been the most rewarding experience in the 50-year-old’s life.

Looking back, choosing to be single was one of the best things I’ve ever done,” she shared on the Call Her Daddy podcast in July 2025. “I truly enjoy my life now. I love not having to compromise with anyone, and I love being completely independent – not needing to check in with a partner before making decisions.

Simply put, “This is how I wanted it to be.”

Charlize Theron, who lost her father, Charles Theron, in a self-defense incident involving her mother, Gerda Maritz, when she was 15, has said her choice to distance herself from her mother was simply about doing what felt right for her.

From the outside, it might seem like I’m just following in my mother’s footsteps as a single parent, since I was raised that way. But really, I’m choosing to raise my kids this way because I’m actively avoiding things I don’t want in life, and because I’m finally understanding and being honest with myself about who I am and what I’m capable of giving.

Charlize recently admitted that when she first wanted to become a parent, she wasn’t in a place where she should have had a child with someone else. She explained that being honest about that is crucial, as it impacts a child’s life. (Charlize was last linked to Alex Dimitrijevic in 2023.)

Losing my mom when I was young completely changed how I see life. It made me truly appreciate every moment of happiness, and realize that none of it would be possible without her.
