Xbox and Discord are teaming up! As part of this partnership, Discord Nitro subscribers will now have access to a Game Pass Starter plan. Discord is also getting updates to help players find and learn about games available through Xbox Game Pass.
Okay, so I just heard some awesome news! As a Game Pass subscriber, it looks like we’re getting some perks with Discord now. Basically, they’re giving us 250 Discord Orbs every month, which is cool. Plus, we’ll earn Orbs a bit faster when we do those Discord Quests – about 20% more! And finally, any discounts in the Discord Shop will automatically be applied to our accounts. Pretty sweet deal, right?
Xbox and Discord have been collaborating for years to improve how players connect, chat, and play games on any device. This includes features like Discord voice chat on Xbox consoles and the ability to stream games directly to your Discord friends. Xbox’s goal is to make gaming more social and meet players where they already hang out online.
We’re working together again to give Game Pass members more options and bring exciting new perks to both the Xbox Game Pass and Discord communities.
The idea of combining Game Pass with other subscriptions isn’t new. Back in March, Netflix’s Greg Peters discussed with Xbox’s Asha Sharma how the two companies could potentially partner up. Although nothing has been officially announced, Peters suggested that Netflix subscribers might eventually get Game Pass benefits, and Game Pass members could receive perks with Netflix.
Peters explained that any successful partnership needs to benefit both customers and the companies involved. He believes Microsoft is still working out how to best leverage the Game Pass offering for its own goals, but he’s impressed with Asha’s focus on growth and has been enjoying watching her approach.
There’s been talk about a possible new Game Pass option that would only feature games made by Xbox Game Studios. People digging into game files have found evidence of this tier, internally called “Triton,” and a list of games that might be included, such as DOOM 64, Psychonauts, Retro Classics, DOOM Eternal, Dishonored 2, Fable Anniversary, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Gears 5, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Wars 2, Hellblade, Ori and the Blind Forest, State of Decay 2, and The Elder Scrolls Online.
According to internal notes, Sharma believes Game Pass is key to the value of Xbox gaming, but its current pricing is a problem. While acknowledging the service isn’t finished, Sharma noted that the cost is too high for many players right now. The long-term plan is to make Game Pass more adaptable, though that will require testing and gathering feedback before implementation.
New reports suggest Game Pass might soon let subscribers customize their plans. This would allow users to choose the benefits they want and skip those they don’t, offering more flexibility.
