John Krasinski’s Jack Ryan Future After Ghost War Gets Encouraging Update

Even before its release, John Krasinski – the star, producer, and co-writer of the new film Jack Ryan: Ghost War – has shared some exciting news about the future of the series.

John Krasinski told ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley that the Jack Ryan TV show is finished, but there’s a chance the story could continue after the movie, Ghost War, comes out on May 20th.

He’s discovered that changing the way a story is presented simply opens up new possibilities for what you can share, and he believes there are plenty more stories waiting to be told.

I’m eager to keep the Jack Ryan story going as a movie series. We discovered that a different format allows us to explore new types of stories, and we definitely have more stories we want to share.

Director Andrew Bernstein is pleased that Krasinski is considering ideas for a sequel. However, Bernstein emphasizes that a new film should only be made if there’s a compelling story to tell.

Bringing back the original cast and crew for Ghost War felt like the right next step for the series, as they had a compelling story that fit the characters and the evolving world. He also shared his enthusiasm about returning for a sequel if Prime Video decides to move forward with it.

Everyone has ideas, but I’m really hoping John has some good ones brewing, as you mentioned. Having a compelling story is the most crucial thing – that’s why we decided to make this movie in the first place. We wanted to tell a story that felt right for the character and the world, and since the world is always changing, there will continue to be great stories to tell. We’re all eager to start working on it again.

Before starting work on a follow-up, the creators of the film want to confirm that Ghost War is successful and that audiences enjoy it enough to want more Jack Ryan adventures.

Bernstein shared that he and his team really enjoyed working on Jack Ryan: Ghost War and are eager to create more installments. However, they need to release the current one first before they can discuss future projects.

We’re all hoping to continue Jack Ryan’s story after Ghost War. Everyone involved really enjoyed making the movie, and that chemistry shows on screen. There’s still a lot more to explore with Jack Ryan, and if audiences like this film, we’d love to make more. We need to release this one first and then we’ll see what the future holds, but the whole team is eager to come back.

If the show continues, a key decision will be whether to adapt stories from Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan books or create a completely new plot. According to an interview with ScreenRant, Bernstein suggested the best approach would be to capture the same feeling and themes as Tom Clancy’s work, but in an original story.

He’s interested in making another movie based on a Tom Clancy book, but he points out that current events are providing plenty of compelling stories on their own. It’s much too soon to start planning the storyline for a possible sequel.

Tom Clancy was a truly exceptional writer, and we’re hoping to capture that same feeling in a new story. Ultimately, it will be up to the writers to bring that spirit to life in the script. I’ve always been a huge fan of his books and would love to adapt another one someday, but right now, there are so many compelling real-world events offering fantastic story ideas as well.

While Ghost War is a recent addition, it’s not the first Jack Ryan movie. Between 1990 and 2014, five other films featuring the character were released, including The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Sum of All Fears, and Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

Four years later, Prime Video released a new television series based on the character Jack Ryan. John Krasinski plays Ryan, following in the tradition of actors like Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine who have portrayed the character in films. In the show, Ryan is a CIA analyst who moves from desk work to field investigations, working to uncover shocking crimes and stop dangerous criminals.

The TV series Jack Ryan was well-received by critics, achieving an 80% average score on Rotten Tomatoes and receiving nominations for prestigious awards like the Emmys, SAG Awards, and Critics’ Choice Awards. Prime Video concluded the show in 2023 after four seasons.

John Krasinski will return as Jack Ryan in the upcoming movie Ghost War. The film also features Wendell Pierce, Michael Kelly, Betty Gabriel, Sienna Miller, Max Beesley, Douglas Hodge, and JJ Feild. In addition to acting, Krasinski is also a producer on the project, alongside Allyson Seeger, Andrew Form, Carlton Cuse, and Graham Roland.

Jack Ryan: Ghost War will be released on Prime Video on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
