Nintendo recently announced the Switch 2 will cost $500 starting later in 2026, a price increase from its current $450. While many expected this change due to rising manufacturing costs affecting the tech industry, Nintendo has suggested that further price increases for the console are possible in the future.
Following the release of their recent financial report, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa addressed concerns about the price of the upcoming Switch 2 and potential future changes. He explained that increasing costs for parts used in manufacturing – which already led to a price increase for the new console – are expected to remain unstable throughout 2026 and into 2027. Furukawa stated Nintendo will adjust to these ongoing costs as needed, implying that further price increases for the Switch 2 are a possibility.
Furukawa admitted that while it’s unclear exactly how component costs will change, they expect to see effects of these costs for the next two years. Beyond that, the company plans to be ready to adapt to any future challenges.

It’s frustrating to hear the Nintendo Switch 2 might become more expensive, but it’s understandable given the rising costs of making things. Valve is facing similar challenges with their new Steam Machine. They already had to push back the release date, and now they might also have to increase the price when it finally launches. Both companies are likely responding to increased manufacturing costs, and it seems likely we’ll see higher prices for new gaming hardware from multiple sources.
If you’re thinking about buying a Nintendo Switch 2, it’s best to do so before prices go up. Fortunately, Nintendo isn’t raising the price until September 2026, giving potential buyers plenty of time to purchase it. This is good news, as competitors like PlayStation and Xbox didn’t provide as much notice before increasing the prices of their consoles, making Nintendo’s approach relatively considerate for its fans.
