Even after 22 years, Nickelodeon’s big crossover movie remains the network’s most impressive achievement, and it’s unlikely something similar will ever be created again. Nickelodeon was incredibly successful in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but the network really flourished in the 2000s. Its shows were becoming popular with viewers on television and in movie theaters, ultimately leading to a three-part series that unexpectedly combined two different shows.
Back in 2004, Nickelodeon brought together the worlds of The Fairly OddParents and The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius in a special TV movie called The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour. The crossover was so popular that Nickelodeon made two more movies based on it, creating a trilogy. However, it’s unlikely fans will see a similar event from Nickelodeon again after all this time.
The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour Debuted With Nickelodeon 22 Years Ago

In the early 2000s, both The Fairly OddParents and Jimmy Neutron were incredibly popular shows on Nickelodeon, defining a generation of hits for the channel. Despite their success, the shows arrived on Nickelodeon in very different ways. The Fairly OddParents started as a series of short cartoons within Nickelodeon’s “Oh Yeah! Cartoons” program before becoming a full-fledged show. Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, on the other hand, first appeared as a full-length movie created by John A. Davis, and was later adapted into a TV series.
Beyond simply airing on different channels, The Fairly OddParents and Jimmy Neutron were quite different. The Fairly OddParents was traditionally 2D animated, and its main character, Timmy Turner, was a bit of a troublemaker who relied on his fairy godparents to solve the problems he created. Jimmy Neutron, however, was created using full computer animation, and Jimmy was a brilliant inventor whose experiments often led to chaos. The show typically revolved around Jimmy using his intelligence and scientific skills to fix whatever mess he’d made. Eventually, these two popular shows joined forces in a crossover event that spanned different universes.
The Jimmy Timmy Power Hour was a big event on Nickelodeon that officially combined the worlds of Jimmy Neutron and The Fairly OddParents. The creators from both shows reimagined each other’s characters. Timmy Turner was given a 3D, cartoonish look in Jimmy’s universe, while Jimmy Neutron was redesigned with the 2D, bold style of Timmy’s world. The first crossover kept the interaction between the shows limited, but two later specials expanded on the combined universe.
Are The Fairly OddParents and Jimmy Neutron Ever Going to Crossover Again?

The first Jimmy Timmy Power Hour was so popular that it led to two sequels, When Nerds Collide! and The Jerkinators! While the unique mix of animation styles worked well for the original, the real key to the crossover’s success was the great chemistry between Jimmy and Timmy. Despite living in very different worlds, both boys were often self-centered and determined to get what they wanted, which made for a fun dynamic.
This created a playful competition between the two characters throughout the special episodes, which ultimately came to a head in the finale. The villains and powers from both shows merged, requiring the characters to team up to overcome them. This finale also marked the end of The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius. While it almost ended The Fairly OddParents as well, the show was later renewed for several more seasons.
Both The Fairly OddParents and Jimmy Neutron were incredibly popular shows, but their time has likely passed. Nickelodeon hasn’t pursued Fairly OddParents after the reboot didn’t perform well, and there are no plans to bring Jimmy Neutron back. A new crossover between the two would require both shows to be at their most popular again, which seems highly unlikely at this point, making the idea unrealistic.
