Netflix has a huge selection of movies and shows, but it’s easy for good titles to get lost in the constant stream of new content. With so many options, especially movies, it can be hard to find anything truly great, and the platform doesn’t make discovery easy anymore. Action films, in particular, can blend together when there’s just too much to choose from.
Despite having exciting action, unique stories, and great actors, these five movies haven’t gotten the attention they deserve because of how streaming services work.
Lost Bullet (Balle Perdue) (2020) Features The Best Car-Action Ever
I recently discovered this amazing movie, and the story is seriously one of a kind! It stars Alban Lenoir, who also wrote it, and he plays Lino, a mechanic who gets pulled into a life of crime. He’s not just any criminal though – he builds these incredible, super-powered Renault cars designed for ramming! Things get really interesting when, after a robbery, the police ask him to build more cars – but this time to help them catch bad guys. But then, he gets framed for a murder he didn’t even do! It’s a wild ride.
Clocking in at 92 minutes, Lost Bullet is a fast-paced thriller where Lino races against time to find a crucial bullet hidden in a car – the only evidence that can clear his name. The film stands out with its practical effects and intense, realistic action, avoiding CGI altogether. Director Guillaume Pierret delivers thrilling and explosive sequences from beginning to end.
The Night Comes for Us (2018) Is The Raid’s Spiritual Successor
If you’re in the mood for intense, hard-hitting action like you’d find in Indonesian films, The Night Comes For Us definitely delivers. Directed by Timo Tjahjanto, the movie features a cast of well-known actors battling each other. Joe Taslim stars as Ito, a member of a dangerous Southeast Asian crime syndicate who decides to leave when he tries to save a young girl from a terrible fate.
This triggers a brutal cycle of revenge, with the Triad relentlessly pursuing Ito and the child. The fight scenes are incredibly violent and escalate quickly, and director Timo Tjahjanto doesn’t hold back. While the intense violence, particularly in the butcher shop setting, is disturbing, it’s central to what makes The Night Comes For Us a dark, chaotic, and morally complex film.
Wheelman (2017) Is A Highly Tense Action Thriller That Takes Place In A Single Location
Action movies are often known for big explosions and faraway places, but Wheelman proves they can be thrilling even when confined to a small space – almost the entire film takes place inside a car. The movie stars Frank Grillo as a getaway driver who finds himself caught in a robbery gone wrong. As the situation gets more dangerous, with threats coming in from burner phones and pursuing riders, the tension steadily builds, making for a gripping watch.
Grillo delivers a fantastic performance, skillfully portraying both subtle reactions and controlled emotion as his character navigates a complicated situation. Despite being a debut director, Rush confidently crafts a tense and gripping thriller, remarkably using the confined space of a car to build the entire story.
Kate (2021) Is The Ultimate Revenge Film
Kate arrives and departs quietly, but the movie deserves a lot more attention. Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as a skilled assassin trying to escape her criminal life. Just as she’s planning her final job, she’s poisoned with radiation by enemies in Tokyo. This sets her on a vengeful path, resulting in incredibly intense and physically challenging action sequences that Winstead performs brilliantly.
Kate fully immerses herself in the character, and director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan brilliantly showcases the action with the vibrant city of Tokyo as its setting. The movie is a visually striking, fast-paced thrill ride, but also explores deeper emotional themes, making it a welcome and exciting addition to the world of action films led by women.
Triple Frontier (2019) Has A Dream Cast
Director J.C. Chandor, known for films like All Is Lost and Margin Call, has assembled an incredible cast for his latest movie. While it initially appears to be a fast-paced heist set in South America involving a drug lord, the story is much more complex. It centers on a team of experienced soldiers whose desire for wealth overrides their judgment as they attempt to steal from a drug lord, sometimes with unexpected acts of kindness.
Beyond its exciting action scenes filmed in the Andes Mountains, Triple Frontier delves into the lives of men grappling with their pasts. The actors deliver subtle and compelling performances, and the film’s intense action is presented with a sweeping scale, creating a truly immersive experience.
