It’s a disheartening day for Halo enthusiasts as it was revealed that the Halo Championships Series (HCS) will soon phase out its support for Halo Infinite Esports. Tashi, the Esports Lead for Halo Waypoint, announced this decision to abandon Halo Infinite completely by the end of 2026. This announcement precedes the Halo World Championship in October, which could potentially be the last chance for fans to watch competitive play for Halo Infinite on a global scale. The news left fans feeling somber and questioning what the future might hold for the revered Xbox franchise.
In a post dated July 25th, Tashi stated that the support for the game Halo Infinite will extend to 2026. However, the game will be formally decommissioned following the 2025 Halo World Championship.
Over the coming months, I’m excited to share that the HCS will host not one, but two major tournaments, as well as the hotly anticipated and nearly sold-out Halo World Championship on October 24-26. Once a world champion is crowned in October, we’ll be stepping away from Halo Infinite for official competition within the HCS.
However, this doesn’t mean we’re abandoning Halo Infinite or its vibrant tournament scene! We’ll continue to support it, but in 2026 and beyond, we’ll be focusing on different games for our official competitions, starting from next year’s Halo World Championship.
Tashi expressed his excitement about how Halo Infinite brought attention to the Halo Esports world and thanked everyone who contributed to its success. As per Tashi, Halo Infinite is unique because it’s been the longest a single Halo esports game has hosted significant competitions. Moreover, Tashi confirmed that official HSC tournaments will not take place in 2026.
Tashi shared, “We’re eagerly waiting for the return of the Official HCS competition with a fresh title, but it won’t be in 2026. Rest assured, we’ll continue to share updates as they come, possibly towards the end of next year. Thank you and here’s hoping you can join us for the upcoming historic months of Halo Infinite HCS competition!
Sports teams, players, and enthusiasts reacted to the announcement with a mix of sweet and sad feelings, grateful for the experience they’ve had but unsure about the future.
Feels like I just got here and what I grew to love over the last 2 years is already leaving.

As uncertainty surrounds the future of competitive Halo, the upcoming Halo World Championships in October presents an ideal platform for Halo Studios to unveil a fresh game title. Given that 2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the debut of the original Halo, significant announcements seem imminent, regardless.
In October, Halo Studios disclosed that they were working on several Halo projects at the time and were embarking on a fresh era by transitioning to Unreal Engine 5. They mentioned that all upcoming Halo games would leverage this engine for development.
There’s been buzz among fans suggesting that a fresh Halo installment might drop in 2026. During an Xbox Games Showcase earlier this June, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer hinted at something exciting for 2026, mentioning “the comeback of an old favorite that’s been part of our journey since the start.
In June, Tashi shared a hint that those eager for exclusive updates on Halo Studios projects should mark their calendars for the Halo World Championship this year, as it’s not a piece of information they’d want to miss. Fingers crossed, Halo enthusiasts can expect positive news ahead of time since they are preparing to celebrate the game’s 25th anniversary.
