After about a week in theaters, Mortal Kombat II has earned $60 million and received a generally positive response from fans. However, the film’s ultimate success will determine the future of the Mortal Kombat franchise, and the studio hasn’t made any official announcements yet. Separately, writer Jeremy Slater has hinted at news regarding a potential Mortal Kombat III movie.

He recently shared that a third movie isn’t officially confirmed yet. After early test screenings of the second film, the studio saw positive fan reactions and realized the series could continue. Because of this, he was asked to begin writing a script for the third movie, and he’s currently finishing the second draft. He’s very pleased with how it’s coming along. Just as they improved the second movie based on what they learned from the first, they’re now using feedback from early screenings of the second film to make the third one even better and more enjoyable for fans. Their goal is to keep improving with each installment.

Now that the movie is performing well, we can expect to hear more announcements about Mortal Kombat III soon.

Screenwriter Max Landis, known for his work on films like ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’, is also the writer behind the poorly received 2015 ‘Fantastic Four’ – a film that failed despite not being his fault. He’s now expanding into directing with ‘Thread’, a new installment connected to the ‘Insidious’ horror series.
