The Day of the Jackal season 2 casts White Collar and American Horror Story star in major new role

Filming has begun on the second season of ‘The Day of the Jackal,’ and a well-known actor has joined the cast.

In the popular thriller, Eddie Redmayne plays ‘The Jackal’, a cold and dangerous assassin who almost got away from British intelligence agent Bianca Pullman (Lashana Lynch) at the end of the first season.

The incredibly skilled and dangerous impersonator was still on the run the last we knew, determined to find his separated wife, Nuria (Úrsula Corberó), and possibly also to kill successful businessman Timothy Winthrop (Charles Dance).

Matt Bomer, the actor from shows like White Collar and American Horror Story, has joined the cast, and it looks like he’ll be playing a villain. This could throw a wrench into the plans of the series’ main antagonist (according to Deadline).

I’m still trying to find out exactly what Matt Bomer’s going to be doing in season 2 of The Day of the Jackal, but details are super scarce right now! They’re keeping the whole plot under wraps, and it sounds like they’ve been working on it for a long time – it’s definitely not being rushed, which is good to hear.

The first season of the action thriller, based on Frederick Forsyth’s novel, finished in December 2024. While the show was quickly renewed for a second season, progress on it has been slow.

At some point during production, Ronan Bennett, the creator of the series and also known for his work on Netflix’s Top Boy, left the project. David Harrower, known for Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, took over.

Eddie Redmayne will be joined by new cast members Eddie Bomer, Weruche Opia (from ‘Bait’), and Pablo Schreiber (from ‘His & Hers’) in the next season of the series. It will air on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK, and be available to stream on Peacock in the US.

The Day of the Jackal season 2 is coming soon. Catch up on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
