Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) is having a very difficult time recovering from his recent prostate surgery in Emmerdale.
After appearing in a special episode with Coronation Street in January, the character received a prostate cancer diagnosis and has faced a difficult journey since then.
Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) was falsely accused of serious crimes – manslaughter and human trafficking – after two bodies were discovered on her farm, Butler’s Farm. She ended up selling the farm to allow her husband, Cain, to concentrate on his health.
He decided against the surgery, worried about the possibility of becoming incontinent or experiencing erectile dysfunction. He feared these side effects could damage his marriage.
Moira repeatedly assured him things would stay the same. Just this week, she held his hand while he waited for surgery, and reassured their sons, Kyle Winchester and Isaac Dingle, as they worried.

Thankfully, the doctor soon told Moira and her sons that the surgery had gone well. Although they should have been relieved and happy, Cain found himself preoccupied with the catheter he now had, realizing it was the first indication of how drastically his life would be different.
Moira was pleased to find Cain in good spirits when she arrived today. The doctor gave him some good news: if he could walk, he’d be able to go home by the end of the day, which motivated Cain to try and get up and moving.
But when he was by himself, he couldn’t stop thinking about what was bothering him, and he realized the bag collecting urine from his catheter was filled with blood.
When Brother Caleb Miligan (William Ash) came to visit, Cain immediately made it known he wasn’t welcome. Cain felt like a failure and a weight on his family, and he was deeply upset at the thought of his sons, Kyle and Isaac, potentially seeing his loss of bladder control.
Overcome with emotion, Cain confessed he regretted having the surgery. Later, alone in his room, he tried to get out of bed and walk, but he wasn’t strong enough and fell back down.

When Moira came back that evening, the doctor encouraged Cain to try walking, but he found it even harder to get out of bed this time. Cain understood that he would need to stay in the hospital for another night.
He started to cry when he understood his recovery would take much longer than he’d expected.
How will Cain adapt to the changes?
