Okay, so get this – Daredevil is back, and it looks like we’re finally getting a proper continuation of the old Defenders team with Daredevil: Born Again Season 3! It’s a little bittersweet, though. Remember when Marvel and Netflix first teamed up and introduced us to the Defenders? It felt like something huge was brewing. But honestly, looking back, that original Defenders miniseries didn’t quite hit the mark. Viewership was down, and a lot of people blamed it on a story that just didn’t grab us, especially coming off the rocky first season of Iron Fist. There was so much potential with these characters, but it never really came together, and sadly, that partnership between Marvel and Netflix eventually fizzled out. Hopefully, Born Again can recapture some of that initial magic.
The popular Marvel heroes from the old Netflix series are making a comeback! Charlie Cox is reprising his role as Daredevil, and Vincent D’Onofrio is back as Kingpin, leading a new wave for these characters. Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones and Mike Colter’s Luke Cage will appear in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, and recent photos confirm the Defenders team – including Finn Jones as Iron Fist – will reunite in season three. This raises the question: how do these heroes stack up against Daredevil in terms of power?
4. Jessica Jones

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve always been fascinated by Jessica Jones. Honestly, she’d be way higher on a power ranking list if it weren’t for some stuff that happened in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. The story goes that she was seriously injured in a car accident, and then some shady organization called IGH experimented on her – basically, they messed with her genes using this unknown substance, maybe even something connected to Inhuman Growth Hormone. She jokes about going from being a weak kid who failed gym class to suddenly being able to throw a minivan, which is a pretty good way to put it! The tricky thing about figuring out just how strong Jessica is, is that she already had a good base level of strength, but it gets boosted when she’s feeling strong emotions, like anger. It makes it hard to really pin down her limits.
Jessica is tougher than most people and heals faster, though not as quickly as Wolverine. This healing ability also lets her build up defenses against things like mind control, as she did against Kilgrave. However, she’s not indestructible. Large numbers of ordinary people can overwhelm her, a fact Kilgrave exploited by using crowds to control her.
In season two of Born Again, Jessica Jones’s powers became unstable following her pregnancy. This is probably due to hormonal changes, considering her abilities are based on an artificial hormone. However, this significantly weakens her, causing her powers to fail unexpectedly and without any clear pattern. This makes her much more vulnerable in fights, which is why she ranks lower on this list. Hopefully, future seasons of Born Again or a potential Jessica Jones revival will address this issue and return her powers to their previous level.
3. Daredevil

Though Daredevil is a leading hero for Marvel’s Defenders, he isn’t the strongest. He lost his sight but gained incredible superhuman senses, including a kind of radar ability even better than Spider-Man’s spider-sense. As explained in the book Marvel Anatomy: A Scientific Study of the Superhuman, this allows him to create a detailed, 3D mental picture of his surroundings, making him highly aware of everything around him. However, heavy rain can disrupt this ability.
Beyond his radar-like ability, Daredevil’s other senses are incredibly heightened. He can smell things like a highly trained tracking dog, taste things in the air, and hear with amazing accuracy. His sense of touch is so sensitive that he can feel even the smallest vibrations, allowing him to track movement throughout entire buildings and navigate new places with ease. All of these super-senses work together perfectly, giving him a significant edge over regular people.
Let’s talk Daredevil. What I find fascinating is that, unlike many heroes, he’s still just a man – meaning a good hit really hurts. But don’t let that fool you, because he’s an absolutely incredible fighter. Years of training with martial arts masters have given him a really unique, almost improvisational style. He uses his heightened senses and awareness to anticipate attacks and dodge things that would take down almost anyone else. That’s why, in my book, he’s a more effective fighter than Jessica Jones – he simply avoids the damage she sometimes takes.
2. Luke Cage

Ranking the last two Defenders is tough because they’re both incredibly strong. Luke Cage gained superhuman strength, speed, and agility through an experimental treatment. His muscles give him impressive reflexes, but he’s best known for his nearly indestructible, bulletproof skin – he’s incredibly resistant to any kind of physical harm and is practically invulnerable.
Despite being incredibly durable, Luke Cage isn’t completely invulnerable. While his skin can’t be harmed, his internal organs are still vulnerable to injury. For example, he suffered a brain hemorrhage from a close-range shotgun blast. This meant his invulnerability actually became a problem – Claire Temple had to perform a delicate procedure to drain fluid from his eye because she couldn’t get through his skin. Therefore, it’s inaccurate to think of Luke as all-powerful or truly invincible.
1. Iron Fist

Finally, there’s Finn Jones as Iron Fist. It’s ironic that he’s potentially the most powerful of the Defenders, especially considering the first season of his show wasn’t very well-received (though the second season was a definite improvement). Danny Rand is a highly skilled martial artist, and arguably one of the strongest fighters in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s trained to control “chi,” a life-force energy, which allows him to deliver incredibly powerful attacks. A single punch fueled by chi can injure even someone as durable as Luke Cage, shatter steel, or send enemies flying with a burst of force.
The end of Iron Fist Season 2 showed Danny Rand learning to focus his Chi energy into his pistols, allowing him to fire powerful, explosive rounds. This implies he could likely do the same with other weapons or objects. He previously taught Colleen Wing to absorb Chi from her surroundings to enhance her abilities, demonstrating his own skill in manipulating external Chi sources.
The Defenders are mostly fighters who rely on close combat. While Danny Rand is skilled in these fights, his ability to use Chi gives him an edge with long-range attacks, making him the strongest of the group. It will be interesting to see how powerful he truly is when the second season of Daredevil: Born Again is released.
