The PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller is great in many ways, but it does have some problems, including a frustrating issue where the analog sticks seem to move on their own – often called stick drift.
Stick drift happens when the thumbsticks on your controller start to move on their own, even when you’re not touching them. It’s a common issue that occurs over time with regular use, causing characters or cameras to move unintentionally.
Many game controllers have this problem, but given that these often cost between $70 and $80, you’d expect them to be more reliable and last much longer before experiencing issues.
The new Scuf Omega controller for PS5 helps address the issue of stick drift thanks to its hall effect analog sticks, which are far less likely to experience this problem.
The Scuf Omega controller is now available for purchase, as announced on the PlayStation Blog. It’s a high-end controller packed with extra features designed for serious gamers.
- Hall effect sticks that use magnetic sensors to minimise contact, resulting in a much longer lifespan
- 11 customisable inputs, including four rear paddles, two side buttons, and five buttons between the grips
- A mobile app that lets you create custom button mapping profiles
- Face and trigger buttons with mechanical switches, using the same tech as gaming mice for precise inputs
Unfortunately, this model lacks the immersive rumble feature found in others, as the vibration technology has been taken out. If you enjoy feeling sensations in your hands while you play, you might notice a difference compared to the more advanced haptics of the DualSense controller.
Keep in mind that all these extra features come at a cost. The Scuf Omega is priced at $219.99, £209.99, or €239.99, which is similar to the price of the DualSense Edge.
If you’re a frequent PS5 gamer and want a controller you can really personalize with extra, programmable buttons, this might be a worthwhile purchase.
