Despite being a popular series for three years in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, an anime adaptation still hasn’t been announced. Shonen Jump has faced challenges recently, with several long-running series like Jujutsu Kaisen, My Hero Academia, and The Elusive Samurai concluding their runs. This has put pressure on the remaining series to maintain readership and fill the void left by these popular titles.
Lots of new manga series are competing for popularity, but some from the 2020s have already proven successful enough to run for multiple seasons. For example, Kagurabachi is getting an anime adaptation after just 100 chapters. However, Nue’s Exorcist, which has even more content, hasn’t received the same attention. It’s unclear why this is the case.
Nue’s Exorcist Still Needs an Anime After 3 Years
The recent, large-scale announcement of an anime for Kagurabachi really shows how little attention Nue’s Exorcist has received in comparison. While Nue’s Exorcist premiered a few months before Kagurabachi, it hasn’t gained nearly as much fan interest. This is likely because it feels more like a traditional Shonen Jump story than Kagurabachi, and that’s actually what makes it stand out. In a landscape of stories striving to be unique, Nue’s Exorcist succeeds by tapping into a sense of nostalgia.
Fans are really hoping to see Nue’s Exorcist adapted into an anime, and it’s easy to understand why. The story centers around Gakuto Kajiwara, a boy who can see spirits. After encountering a strong spirit named Nue, he teams up with her to become an exorcist and battle increasingly dangerous monsters. Throughout the series, Gakuto gains new abilities and forms, engages in exciting fights, and has attracted a surprisingly large group of female friends thanks to his dedication and hard work.
Why Isn’t Nue’s Exorcist Bigger in Shonen Jump?

I’ve been following Shonen Jump for years, and it was wild seeing how many exorcism-themed manga they launched around 2020! So many tried to be the next big monster-fighting series, but Nue’s Exorcist is the only one that really stuck. Honestly, it feels like it has everything Shueisha looks for in a hit – there’s always a new bad guy popping up, a fresh female character added to the team each arc, and our hero, Gakuto, is constantly leveling up with new powers. Plus, the monster designs are just incredible – it’s a really beautiful series to read!
The story resonates with current audiences, but it might feel too familiar compared to more innovative series like Kagurabachi, Ichi the Witch, and Sakamoto Days. However, it has the potential to become incredibly popular with a great anime adaptation. It’s a promising series that’s really waiting for that breakthrough moment.
