With “The Punisher: One Last Kill,” fans finally get a continuation of the gritty, street-level stories within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following up on the events of Daredevil: Born Again. This special presentation not only continues Frank Castle’s story, but also sets the stage for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, firmly establishing The Punisher as part of the larger MCU.
This applies to other characters who first appeared in Netflix’s Defenders series as well. Some of them will even be in The Punisher: One Last Kill, although the cast list is currently quite limited. This is because Marvel hasn’t revealed information about several characters who will be part of the TV special.
Despite the show’s cancellation, several actors have been confirmed to return for The Punisher: One Last Kill, including those from the original Netflix series, recent Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, and some brand new faces.
Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher
Jon Bernthal is, unsurprisingly, starring in The Punisher: One Last Kill. He started his acting career in the early 2000s and first gained widespread recognition on The Walking Dead. That role, along with his portrayal of Frank Castle in Daredevil, opened doors to major film and television projects, including The Accountant, Fury, The Bear, and Christopher Nolan’s upcoming The Odyssey.
Bernthal plays Frank Castle as a classic antihero. Driven by the murder of his family, Castle seeks revenge and delivers his own brand of justice, often targeting criminals. This puts him at odds with heroes like Daredevil because of his willingness to kill, but they sometimes team up despite their differences. In The Punisher: One Last Kill, Frank is pulled back into a fight for justice.
Jason R. Moore as Curtis Hoyle
Jason R. Moore played Curtis in The Punisher: One Last Kill, a role he’s become well-known for after appearing in 21 episodes of Netflix’s The Punisher. In the Netflix series, Curtis was a key ally of Frank Castle, having served alongside him in the military. It’s currently unknown what happened to Curtis, but trailers for The Punisher: One Last Kill suggest he appears in hallucinatory sequences. This may mean Curtis died before the events of the film, but Jason R. Moore is still reprising the role.
Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page
Deborah Woll wasn’t officially cast in The Punisher: One Last Kill until just days before it came out. Director Reinaldo Marcus Green revealed her return in an interview with the Walt Disney Company. Woll has played Karen Page since the first season of Netflix’s Daredevil, and recently appeared in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. As a close friend of Frank Castle, her character’s presence adds emotional weight to his story.
Deborah Woll first gained recognition for her role in True Blood, which led to her being cast in Daredevil. Since then, she’s primarily worked on projects within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with The Punisher: One Last Kill being her most recent role.
Judith Light as Ma Gnucci
In the upcoming story, The Punisher: One Last Kill, Ma Gnucci will be the main villain. It’s currently unclear how she’ll become Frank Castle’s enemy, but the story suggests she’ll draw his ire as the head of a New York mafia family. Veteran actress Judith Light, known for her roles in shows like Who’s the Boss?, Ugly Betty, and Transparent, will portray Gnucci.
