Disney is renowned for its success with animated movies like The Lion King, Aladdin, and Zootopia. They’ve also created many beloved TV shows, including Gravity Falls, The Owl House, and Amphibia, which have all developed dedicated fan bases. After these shows ended, the creators began working on new projects, often with financial support from their fans. Recently, a movie idea from Matt Braly, the creator of Amphibia, was rescued after initially being rejected by Sony Pictures Animation.
Matt Braly recently announced some exciting news about his previously canceled film, Afterworld. A Thai animation studio, The MONK Studios, based in Bangkok, has picked up the project. While the film isn’t currently funded or in production, The MONK Studios will be at the Annecy animation festival seeking partners and investors. Braly credits the renewed interest in Afterworld to the strong public support it received earlier this year, which has already generated a lot of buzz.
The Future of Braly

After finishing the show Amphibia, creator Matt Braly quickly returned to animation with a new project, and not just Afterworld. He recently started his own independent studio, Fantasy Project, and they’re working on an animated mini-series called Clara & The Below. This series offers a darker take on the classic Nutcracker story. Each episode will be about six to eight minutes long, and together they’ll form a complete twenty-four-minute film. Fans enthusiastically funded the project on Kickstarter, reaching their goal in under fifteen minutes. As of today, Clara & The Below has received an incredible $443,662 in contributions.
Even though animator Matt Braly is working on other projects, he’s planning a return to the world of his popular Disney series, Amphibia. This November, fans can look forward to Amphibia: Strange Voyage, a sequel set years after the original show ended. The story follows the Plantars as they embark on a voyage to discover a new continent, but their journey leads them to a mysterious island filled with unexpected secrets. Here’s the official description: “Years after Anne saved Amphibia from the Core and returned to Earth, the Plantars now set sail to discover a new continent. But when their journey takes a perilous turn, they arrive on a mysterious island that holds more secrets than they bargained for.”
