Ncuti Gatwa regenerates – again – in Doctor Who parody ahead of SNL UK hosting gig

Ncuti Gatwa, known for his role in Doctor Who, has given fans another unexpected transformation. This comes as a preview before he hosts the season finale of Saturday Night Live UK this week.

In a recent clip, Hannah Waddingham, who hosted SNL UK last week, transforms into Ncuti Gatwa. He then meets cast members Emma Sidi and Larry Dean, who fill him in on what’s happening.

The team reportedly creates new versions of the characters weekly, leading Ncuti Gatwa to jokingly compare it to the time-traveling adventures of Doctor Who. However, the creators were quick to clarify that it’s not the same, explaining with a touch of humor that it’s “very, slightly different” to avoid any copyright issues.

Sidi goes on to reveal that SNL UK only has two performers, and, like the Doctor, they both have the ability to change into new characters – demonstrated when she becomes Al Nash.

Dean steps up, determined to prove he can do the same thing, and unexpectedly transforms into a completely new being…

This isn’t the first time Saturday Night Live UK has done a Doctor Who sketch. A previous sketch with Aimee Lou Wood playing a companion to the Doctor was very popular with viewers.

Ncuti Gatwa joins a list of previous Saturday Night Live UK hosts that includes Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Riz Ahmed, Jack Whitehall, Nicola Coughlan, Aimee Lou Wood, and Hannah Waddingham.

I’m so thrilled to share that the show has been picked up for a second season! We’re getting 12 brand new episodes, and they’re scheduled to start airing on Sky One in September 2026. I can’t wait!

Lorne Michaels, the creator and executive producer of SNL, expressed his pride in the show and its team, noting its continued improvement. He thanked Dana Strong and Sky for their support of SNL UK and shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming season.

Ncuti Gatwa finished his run as the Doctor last year, with a surprising twist – his character transformed into Billie Piper’s. Since then, the main Doctor Who series has been off the air, though a related show, ‘The War Between the Land and the Sea,’ aired in late 2025.

The next regular installment of the show will air around Christmas, but we don’t yet know who will be in it or what it will be about.
