Chris Brown isn’t begging for anyone to like his music.
Following a scathing review of his new album, Brown, by Pitchfork – who called it “a real piece of st” – the singer of “Beg for It” publicly responded with a strongly worded, expletive-filled statement.
In a video posted on Instagram on May 12th, Chris Brown addressed his fans, saying he wouldn’t dwell on negativity. Instead, he declared they were succeeding and wouldn’t give up. He said, ‘We kickin’ their ass, goddammit. We ain’t lettin’ up.’
I’m going to keep pushing forward and we’re not slowing down, did you hear me? We’re definitely doing this tour, and even bigger things are on the way. I won’t reveal what those are just yet, but trust me, they’re coming.
Chris, having just released his twelfth studio album on May 8th and preparing for a tour with Usher in June, has made it clear he doesn’t want to hear opinions from his critics.
Chris continued, saying he doesn’t care what people are saying. He knows who his true fans are and who is listening to his album, and he doesn’t want to appeal to anyone who isn’t already a supporter.
Responding to criticism from Zara Larsson, who has spoken out against his past history of domestic violence – including a 2009 assault case involving his ex-girlfriend Rihanna – the Grammy-winning artist dismissed her opinion and told listeners to listen to her music instead, using expletives.
This isn’t the first time the 37-year-old has talked about the album getting a mixed reaction. He recently thanked his fans for listening, so he’s familiar with the different opinions.

He shared on Instagram on May 10th that he welcomes feedback from listeners. He noted that his last three albums also received criticism at first, but people eventually came to appreciate them, and he appreciates anyone taking the time to listen.
Chris’ latest album comes weeks after he welcomed his fourth baby, his first with Jada Wallace.
Jada shared photos on Instagram on April 26th: one of her baby bump while pregnant, and another of her newborn feeding from a bottle. She captioned the post, “Purest Love.”
Chris Brown, who has four children – 11-year-old Royalty with Nia Guzman, 6-year-old Aeko with Ammika Harris, and 4-year-old Lovely with Diamond Brown – has said that being a father has been a calming influence in his life.
He described his co-parenting experience as ‘pretty amazing’ during a 2015 interview on On Air with Ryan Seacrest. He also joked that learning to be a dad and care for someone else was a challenge, admitting he sometimes struggled with even basic self-care, like brushing his teeth in the morning!
“It’s actually great,” he added. “It’s very humbling. It’s very calming.”
