As a longtime viewer of this show, I know a lot of us were holding our breath after Season 23, especially wondering about Nick Torres’ fate. Well, the show has finally given us an answer about whether Wilmer Valderrama’s character will be back for Season 24! It’s a relief to have that settled, though plenty of other questions about the new season still linger.

The Season 23 finale of the show ended with a tense standoff between Torres and Mateo (Patrick Keleher), Tim McGee’s son. Mateo revealed he had a gun, and a gunshot immediately followed, leaving viewers unsure who fired the weapon. Showrunner Steven D. Binder recently explained that someone was shot, but thankfully the injury isn’t life-threatening. This means even if Torres was the one hit, the character will survive.

Torres Might Have Been Shot (But He Won’t Die)

Binder confirmed that someone had been shot, but clarified he was done with storylines involving death. He explained that killing off characters wasn’t enjoyable for the team this season, and that a shooting victim who survives creates a more compelling and interesting story – recalling the time Gibbs shot McGee as an example. When he says ‘fun,’ he means engaging and narratively rich.

No matter who gets shot, showrunner Steven Binder hinted that McGee will be deeply troubled when Season 24 begins. He’s been in a difficult situation with his family before – his sister once came to him, believing she had committed a crime. Binder noted that a previous conversation between McGee and his sister gives clues about how the situation with Mateo will unfold.

McGee May Be Feeling Déjà Vu in Season 24

Binder points out a revealing moment between McGee and Gibbs. When Gibbs confronts McGee, McGee questions his actions, essentially asking, ‘What are you doing?’ This is significant because it highlights the strong relationship they had – the team would never intentionally deceive Gibbs, as he was a father figure to them. McGee emphasizes this loyalty by telling Gibbs that while Gibbs is his mentor, teacher, and father figure, his sister is still his priority.

The showrunner also suggests that Season 24 will send the characters to exciting new locations, just like they did this past season. Viewers can also look forward to the compelling weekly mysteries that NCIS is famous for, and the team plans to strike a good balance between these ongoing storylines and new adventures.
