Announced in 2021, the game—the follow-up to the incredibly popular Stardew Valley—has been highly anticipated by fans worldwide. However, there’s still no confirmed release date, and it doesn’t seem to be launching anytime soon. Barone recently shared details about the reasons behind the slow development in a new interview.
Eric Barone recently gave Game Informer an update on the progress of Haunted Chocolatier. He explained that the game is significantly larger and more complex than Stardew Valley, which is the primary reason development is taking longer. While he didn’t specify the total amount of content, Barone confirmed that Haunted Chocolatier features much deeper and more intricate systems than his previous game.
According to Barone, the new game is much more expansive than Stardew Valley. It features a significantly larger world with more maps and monsters, a more complex item and equipment system, and generally offers a greater level of depth in all areas.
Eric Barone, the creator of both games, explained that his continued work on the incredibly popular Stardew Valley is slowing down development of Haunted Chocolatier. Because Stardew Valley remains so successful, he spends a lot of time communicating with fans and maintaining the game, which makes it hard to fully dedicate himself to Haunted Chocolatier.
