Episode 7 of The Boys Season 5 includes a funny and unexpected cameo from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it works really well. Warning: Spoilers ahead! After the dramatic events of Episode 6, this week’s episode feels like a strong setup for the season finale. While the characters from Gen V only appear briefly, and The Boys surprisingly bends its own rules in “The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother’s Milk,” the episode successfully builds tension and wraps up storylines for several characters.
Frenchie’s storyline reaches a clear conclusion, and Soldier Boy is frozen again, effectively removing him from the picture. Following the breakup of The Seven, The Deep also gets a definitive outcome. While he might appear briefly in the final episode, this week’s episode provides a satisfying end for Chace Crawford’s character. He’s not only kicked off The Seven, but he’s also permanently banned from the water – all the sea creatures despise him due to a past mistake, preventing him from even attempting a rescue. Caught on camera acting cowardly, The Deep’s time as a hero is over, regardless of his status with The Seven, and his downfall is capped off with a surprising cameo that makes it even more impactful.
Samuel L. Jackson Voices Xander the Shark in The Boys Season 5, Episode 7

In Season 5, Episode 7 of The Boys, a character named The Deep discovers his old friend, Xander (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson), now poses a threat to him. Samuel L. Jackson is a highly accomplished actor, perhaps best known for his memorable role as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s captivating as Fury, bringing a powerful and charismatic presence to the character—even without relying on superpowers. Jackson perfectly balances charm, humor, and intimidation, and it’s this very combination that makes his appearance on The Boys so effective.
It’s satisfying to finally see someone confront The Deep, and Jackson delivers those harsh words perfectly. His performance is strong enough to really show how much Kevin is no longer wanted, and it’s also funny to watch a shark angrily scold someone. Jackson was an excellent choice for the role, especially considering the complexity of his character.
Why This MCU Cameo Is a Genius Move for The Boys

The recent Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) cameo in The Boys Season 5, Episode 7 is brilliantly executed, and it’s not just about Samuel L. Jackson perfectly portraying Xander’s intimidation of The Deep. Considering Nick Fury is essentially the creator of the MCU—the one who assembles Earth’s heroes—it’s clever to have Jackson appear in a show that often satirizes the superhero genre. The timing is also hilariously ironic. While his MCU character is famous for building teams, he arrives in The Boys right after Homelander breaks his apart. It’s clear The Deep won’t be getting an invitation to join any new team, and neither will anyone else.
Samuel L. Jackson has worked with sharks before, famously appearing in the 1999 film Deep Blue Sea where his character didn’t survive. Now, in The Boys, he’s playing the character who is the shark, and might even get to eliminate someone. With the final episode of Season 5 approaching, his character, The Deep, could face even more consequences.
