Denmark has competed in the Eurovision Song Contest for 31 years, winning three times. They didn’t make it to the final in 2024, and while they qualified last year, they didn’t achieve a high score. This puts a lot of expectation on this year’s contestant, Søren Torpegaard Lund.
He has a strong chance of winning, as his song is already a huge hit on streaming services, approaching 6 million plays on Spotify. Hopefully, he can bring Denmark its fourth win!

The Eurovision Song Contest has received a lot of criticism for letting Israel compete this year, given the current war happening in Gaza.
Several countries are choosing not to participate in the contest this year because the organization in charge, the European Broadcasting Union, decided against banning Israel from competing.
In December 2025, the EBU held a meeting where members voted to create rules preventing governments or outside groups from unfairly boosting certain songs to sway voting results. However, they did not vote on whether Israel would be allowed to participate in the competition.
The EBU announced that most of its members agreed no new vote was necessary regarding participation in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest. The contest will go ahead as scheduled, with extra safety measures added.
After that, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland announced they would not be competing in Eurovision this year.
Ireland’s public broadcaster, RTÉ, has stated that it believes it’s impossible to participate in the upcoming event due to the tragic loss of life and ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which continues to endanger civilians.
As a big fan of the contest, I saw the BBC released a statement backing the EBU’s decision. They basically said it comes down to upholding the competition’s rules and making sure everyone feels welcome. It’s good to see them publicly supporting that.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 final will take place on Saturday 16 May 2026.
