MasterChef isn’t on tonight, Thursday, May 14th, because of the Eurovision Song Contest. The contest is causing some changes to the usual BBC TV schedule.
I’m so excited the cooking competition is back! It returned last month with Grace Dent and Anna Haugh as the new hosts, and I usually tune in to BBC One to watch. They typically show three episodes a week, either at 8 or 9pm.
Tonight’s show will air on BBC Two instead of BBC One because of the BBC’s live coverage of the second Eurovision semi-final, which starts at 8pm and lasts until 10:15pm.
Tonight on MasterChef, starting at 8pm, the final six chefs will compete in the last preliminary round. Judges Dent and Haugh will challenge them, beginning with the signature dish challenge.
If you can’t watch MasterChef tonight or tomorrow, or if you’re busy with Eurovision, both episodes are already available on BBC iPlayer.

MasterChef isn’t the only show being moved from BBC One tonight – the yearly song contest also required a schedule change.
This week, the show Race Across the World unexpectedly aired on Wednesday instead of its usual Thursday timeslot.
This year’s Eurovision Song Contest features 35 countries. The winner from last year, Austria, automatically advances to the Grand Final, along with France, Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom – known as the ‘Big Four’.
As a huge Eurovision fan, I was really surprised to hear that Spain, normally one of the major players – part of what we call the ‘Big Five’ – has decided not to compete this year. They’re protesting Israel’s participation, which is a pretty bold move, and honestly, a bit heartbreaking for those of us who always look forward to their entry.

Iceland, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Slovenia all decided not to participate after the European Broadcasting Union allowed Israel to compete.
As a huge Eurovision fan, I was glued to the screen for the first semi-final on Tuesday. Now, I’m getting ready for the second one on Thursday! Another 15 countries will be performing, all hoping to grab one of the last 10 places in Saturday’s big finale. It’s getting so exciting!
MasterChef continues tonight at 8pm on BBC Two and iPlayer.
