Netflix announced that the fifth season of Bridgerton will be released in a way that’s different from how previous seasons have premiered.
The popular historical drama, which has released new seasons every two years since it first aired in late 2020, will return in 2027, one year after its fourth season.
Netflix announced the news on Wednesday, May 13th, during a presentation to advertisers in New York. Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s head of content, shared the information.
I’ve got some exciting news for Bridgerton fans! Back in March, Netflix confirmed they were already filming season five. This time around, the story will center on Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, and her blossoming romance with Michaela Stirling, portrayed by Masali Baduza. Get ready for a new central couple!
I’m really excited because this new storyline is a bit different from the fifth Bridgerton book, ‘To Sir Phillip, with Love’. That one centered around Eloise, who always thought of herself as a ‘spinster’, and her journey to finding love. It’s cool to see things shift a little!

Season five of Bridgerton will focus on Francesca Bridgerton (played by Hannah Dodd). Two years after the death of her husband, John, Francesca cautiously begins looking for a new spouse, prioritizing a sensible match.
When John’s cousin, Michaela, comes back to London to manage the family estate, Fran will find herself torn between doing what’s sensible and following her heart.

This won’t be the first time the Netflix series has differed from the original books. Season 3, released in two parts earlier this year, drew inspiration from the fourth book, Romancing Mr. Bridgerton, and centered on Colin (Luke Newton) finding a romance.
The fourth season of Bridgerton is based on the love story of Benedict (Luke Thompson), which comes from the third book in the Bridgerton series, ‘An Offer from a Gentleman’.
All four seasons of Bridgerton are currently streaming on Netflix. If you enjoy the show, you can find the Bridgerton novels for purchase on Amazon.
