Lies of P Studio Will Use Generative AI Tools to Create Visuals “Strictly as Internal Reference”

Following concerns raised by job postings that NEOWIZ and ROUND8 might be using generative AI for the sequel to Lies of P, the companies have clarified the situation. They stated to Eurogamer that the “AI creator” position listed on NEOWIZ’s website isn’t for the Lies of P sequel at all. Instead, it’s for a separate research and development team within ROUND8 focused on art.

The research and development team is using generative AI to create images for internal use only, as references during the early stages of game development. The images used to train these AI tools are all company-owned and legally protected.

Okay, so I saw some chatter online and wanted to clear things up. That job posting everyone’s talking about isn’t for working on the Lies of P sequel directly. It’s for a separate art R&D team within ROUND8. As for AI, they’re using it, but only in the really early stages to speed up basic, repetitive stuff. Basically, any visuals created by AI are just for internal reference – like mood boards or initial concepts – to help figure out the look and feel before actual production starts. It’s just a tool to get the ball rolling, not something that’ll replace artists making the final game.

We’re creating a unique image library using only artwork that NEOWIZ and ROUND8 fully own the rights to. All the game’s visuals will be made by our professional artists.

NEOWIZ announced during its latest earnings call that development of the Lies of P sequel is now fully underway, having moved beyond the initial prototyping phase. The studio also revealed that ROUND8 is collaborating on the project, focusing on storytelling, which is a key strength of the development team. Choi Ji-won is directing the game. While Seung-ho Jin and Kay Lee are both directing other projects, it’s currently unclear if they will contribute to the narrative of Lies of P 2.

NEOWIZ is aiming for significant growth. Earlier this year, co-CEO Sean Kim shared the company’s plans to create several new, popular game franchises in the coming years, while also continuing to develop and expand Lies of P into a long-term franchise.

Kim explained that their aim is to create popular games that players will enjoy for years to come—even a decade from now. They’re currently working on over five new games for PC and consoles, and are also looking for promising international games by partnering with studios like Zakazane and Wolfeye. They intend to keep investing in these kinds of strong global partnerships in the future.

Just wanted to share that Lies of P is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. And get this – as of March, it’s already sold over 4 million copies! That’s awesome, and I’m really enjoying it myself.
