A new update for Crimson Desert is here! While the developers highlighted just two main additions, this patch (version 1.06.00) actually brings a lot to the game. Let’s take a look at what’s new, starting with…
New Special Mounts
We were thrilled when the developers announced “new special mounts,” imagining all the amazing creatures we could now ride. It would have been shorter to ask which animals weren’t available, as you can now register wolves, mountain goats, raptors, camels, lions, tigers, deer, Kuku Birds, and even iguanas as mounts. Taming each one requires different methods – some respond to regular feeding, while others need special care. Either way, the developers have definitely delivered on their promise of letting us summon a wider variety of mounts whenever we want.
Feed Mounts While Riding and Special Saddles
There’s more good news! You can now feed your mount while you’re riding it, which saves you time and effort. Just open your inventory and choose the feed you want to use. Plus, special mounts now have unique saddles – wolves can use Hernand and Equinsher Saddlery, bears get Hernand and Calphade Saddlery, and you can find even more options in cities throughout the world. If you prefer, you can also remove the saddle for a simpler appearance.
Material Extraction
One of the biggest additions in this update is a feature called Extraction, which both new and experienced players will find useful. It lets you recover materials you’ve invested in your weapons and gear by visiting a Smithy. You can roll back refinements, getting some or all of your materials back. While you’ll get back Artifacts and Aeserion’s Scales fully, other materials like copper, iron, and bloodstones will be returned as well. Since those common materials are easy to find anyway, it’s a good trade-off. So, if you’re running low on resources, especially rare ones like Abyss Artifacts, material extraction is a quick way to get more.
Unarmed Combat Skills for Oongka

Okay, so when I first got switched to playing as Oongka during a mission, I wasn’t thrilled – his skills felt pretty weak, and the starting gear wasn’t great. But honestly, he’s gotten so much better with the updates! He and Damiane have really improved. I already thought he was powerful with the hammer or axe, but now? He’s a total beast! And the best part is, they just added unarmed combat skills – you can literally choose to fight with just his fists! Damiane’s getting some new options soon too, but it’s amazing to see them both getting so much more versatile in combat.
The Claw Machine
The biggest new feature is the Claw Machine! You can find it at the Laughing Marionette circus, just west of Demeniss. It costs Silver to play, and it’s a welcome addition because many of the mini-games in Crimson Desert become repetitive after you finish their quests. The Claw Machine is genuinely fun and offers great rewards – you can win things like furniture, Abyss Artifacts, Abyss Gears, and even unique headgear that Marni herself would appreciate.
Visione Enhancement
The Visione headgear has been updated! You can now add enhancements and Abyss Gear to it using new sockets, making it more useful both visually and for collecting Memory Fragments. Other equipment has also received similar updates, though the developers haven’t listed everything specifically. While the number of sockets won’t go beyond the usual amount for each item type—and might be fewer for items like those from Kuku—these changes generally make the equipment more appealing and practical.
Combat Improvements

Crimson Desert’s combat was already strong, but recent updates have made it even better, and this one is no exception. Players can now perform moves like Blinding Flash without needing a weapon, and chain attacks after a Roundhouse Kick are improved when fighting unarmed. Two-handed cannons have also received a power boost, making them a more effective choice in battle. Even basic unarmed combat feels smoother and more polished. It’s as if the game is encouraging players to try out the unarmed Oongka fighting style.
Skill Search, Research UI Improvements, and More
We’ve continued to improve the user interface, and one particularly helpful addition is a search function for Skills. Now you can quickly find what you’re looking for without endless scrolling. We’ve also made it easier to see your in-game currency when customizing your character or applying dyes, and the Research Institutes now have a more user-friendly layout.
Night Tone Mode
If you’re someone who plays late at night and prefers gentler colors with better visibility in the dark, Night Tone Mode is for you. It makes exploring in low light – whether it’s nighttime or dusk – much more comfortable, ideal for exploring the world after completing quests. While some areas might appear a little less vibrant than others, hopefully the developers will add more options like this in future updates.
All the Best for the Rest

I especially enjoy writing about this part of the update because the small details really add up. The new Display Sheath option might seem minor, but some of the designs are stunning. Also, cloaks now visually reflect their elemental resistances, making them look more fitting. Plus, you can now stack furniture and decorations, and some factions have new ways to unlock previously inaccessible knowledge.
We’ve improved the quality of HDR, and enabling it will no longer prevent you from instantly starting gameplay. Waterfalls should now appear more realistic, especially from different viewing distances. For fashion-focused endgame players, Kliff can now wear some of Oongka’s outfits – a full list is coming soon, but you’ll be able to create more rugged-looking Kliff characters. Oongka can also now wear the Greymane Cloth Cloak, a requested addition. Finally, attacking Strongholds (whether re-blockaded or not) now gives you a better chance to earn Abyss Gear Blueprints.
I won’t repeat my usual advice about the development team needing rest. However, it’s amazing how much Crimson Desert has evolved in just under two months. It makes you wonder what’s next for the game and how much further the developers will push it. No matter what happens, every new update is a joy to explore.
