It’s always tough to conclude a popular TV series, particularly when facing a tight deadline. This likely contributed to the negative reaction surrounding the season finale of the Prime Video show.
The new fantasy show quickly became a popular streaming success, according to FlixPatrol. The 90-minute episode launched on May 13th, and within just one day, it had climbed to sixth place worldwide and fifth place domestically.
The show isn’t currently a hit, and it probably won’t become one soon. The Boys has been the most popular show since it came back on April 8th and isn’t letting go of the top spot.
What Happens in Good Omens Season 3?
The fantasy series first appeared on Prime Video in 2019, initially planned as a one-season story. It was created by Neil Gaiman, drawing from the novel he co-wrote with Terry Pratchett, and follows the adventures of an angel named Aziraphale and a demon named Crowley.
Okay, so this show is steeped in Christian imagery and ideas, but it’s presented in a really fun way. The first season centers around two characters, Aziraphale and Crowley, who have been around for ages and have kind of gotten used to enjoying life on Earth. They’re an unlikely pair, but they team up to prevent the apocalypse – basically, they’re trying to stop the Antichrist from showing up and causing chaos. It’s a clever premise and they play off each other brilliantly.
Okay, so Season 2 really throws you for a loop! It picks up four years after the first season, and this time, Crowley and I – I mean, Aziraphale and Crowley – are trying to figure out what happened to the Archangel Gabriel. He just shows up at Aziraphale’s bookshop, completely without his memories, which is… concerning, to say the least. Naturally, keeping him a secret from both Heaven and Hell becomes a huge challenge, and honestly, the stakes feel even higher for us this time around.
Aziraphale ignored Crowley’s confession of love and decided to return to Heaven, hoping to influence events from within. While Heaven gets ready for the Second Coming, the Messiah unexpectedly slips onto Earth, and Aziraphale again asks for Crowley’s assistance. But this new task will be their final one.
Good Omens Season 3 Received Disappointing Reviews
Originally planned for a complete season, the show was given a final episode after concerns raised by Neil Gaiman. However, the finale didn’t impress many critics, who felt it was too hurried. It attempted to cover a lot in just 90 minutes – including Aziraphale’s new role in Heaven, Crowley dealing with heartbreak, their eventual reunion, a new search for the Messiah, and preventing another apocalypse.
The show received mixed reviews, earning a 60% score from critics – barely enough to be considered positive. However, audiences were much less impressed, giving it a disappointing 34%. Many viewers disagreed with the final choices made by the main characters, Crowley and Aziraphale, and felt the ending wasn’t satisfying.
One viewer expressed extreme disappointment with how the show ended, criticizing inconsistencies in the characters’ development. Another reviewer noted a stark contrast between the first season, which they described as enchanting, and the third, which felt like a destruction of everything they enjoyed.
The film received some good feedback, including one five-star review that highlighted the leads’ incredible performances. Another reviewer described it as both sad and lovely.
Good Omens is streaming on Prime Video.
