Okay, folks, get ready – Grown Ups 3 is officially happening! As a long-time Adam Sandler fan, I’m definitely curious to see what he and the gang get up to this time. For those who need a refresher, the original Grown Ups came out way back in 2010, and it’s basically about Sandler and his comedy buddies playing a bunch of guys who reconnect after years apart, reminiscing about their old basketball-playing days. It’s lighthearted fun, and I’m hoping the third installment delivers the same kind of vibe.
Critics didn’t love the silly and childish humor in Grown Ups, but the movie was a huge financial success, earning $271 million. The sequel, Grown Ups 2, released three years later, did just as well. However, despite these two hits, plans for a third Grown Ups movie fell apart. Adam Sandler moved on to different projects, and it seemed like Grown Ups 3 would never happen.
Adam Sandler used to be reluctant to make sequels to his movies, but he’s started to change his mind recently. After the popular Happy Gilmore 2 was released on Netflix in 2025, fans hoped the Saturday Night Live veteran and Golden Globe nominee would revisit some of his other big hits. However, a third Grown Ups movie has been stuck in development.
For a long time, fans have wondered if there would be another Grown Ups movie. Now, it’s official: a third film is in the works! While we don’t know many details yet, the possibilities seem endless. Because the series doesn’t have a strict storyline, almost any of the original cast could come back for more hilarious fun.
Netflix Has Confirmed That Grown Ups 3 Is Happening
For over ten years, there have been rumors about Grown Ups 3, but Netflix has now officially confirmed it’s happening. While details are still scarce, the movie is the next project in Adam Sandler’s continuing deal with the streaming service.
Adam Sandler will star in and produce the upcoming comedy Grown Ups 3. Kyle Newacheck is directing; he’s worked with Sandler before on Murder Mystery and last year’s Happy Gilmore 2. Sandler will co-write the script with Tim Herlihy, a long-time collaborator who has also penned many of Sandler’s hit films, such as The Wedding Singer and the original Happy Gilmore.
Okay, so a third Grown Ups movie is potentially happening, but a big question mark hangs over whether the original cast will be back. Honestly, it feels hard to imagine them making another one without Kevin James, David Spade, Chris Rock, and the rest of the crew. Rob Schneider didn’t show up for the second film, but the success of these movies might just be enough to get everyone to sign on again. We’ll have to wait and see if they can pull the whole gang back together!
Based on what happened with Happy Gilmore 2, we can expect Grown Ups 3 to include many new famous faces and celebrity appearances. Netflix often uses well-known actors in Adam Sandler’s movies, and a big project like Grown Ups 3 might feature an even larger cast of stars. Currently, there’s no information about when the movie will be released.
Is Netflix The Right Place For Grown Ups 3?
The only downside to the announcement of Grown Ups 3 is that it’s coming to Netflix. A big sequel like this could have made a lot of money in theaters, so releasing it directly to streaming feels like a missed opportunity. The first two Grown Ups movies earned over $500 million combined, and this third film could have been just as successful with a theatrical release.
Look, I’ll be honest, Adam Sandler’s Netflix stuff has been…fine. But it feels like streaming has become a bit of a catch-all, and we’re not getting the same level of effort as before. The first Grown Ups wasn’t high art, sure, but you could tell people actually cared about making it. It would really bum me out if they made us wait almost 15 years for Grown Ups 3 and it just turned out to be another forgettable movie thrown onto a streaming service.
