Good Omens season 3 has set a new Rotten Tomatoes record.
The Prime Video fantasy series Good Omens achieved a record-breaking audience score just one day after its final episode became available. This third and final season consists of a single 90-minute episode that concludes the show’s overall story. It follows Aziraphale and Crowley after they parted ways, with Aziraphale unexpectedly tasked with triggering the apocalypse. When Jesus and the Book of Life disappear, he enlists Crowley’s help to locate the Messiah and prevent the end of the world.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, viewers are disappointed with the ending of Good Omens season 3, which has received a notably low audience score. Currently, the season has a 40% audience rating based on over 100 reviews. Although some viewers enjoyed the conclusion and felt the writing was consistent with earlier seasons, many were unhappy with how the story of Aziraphale and Crowley resolved. This dissatisfaction is reflected in the show’s overall ratings.
Reviews for the final episode of Good Omens haven’t been great. Currently, the season has a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 15 reviews – making it the lowest-rated season of the show so far. Many critics felt the episode was too rushed, trying to fit a whole season’s worth of plot into a single episode. While some viewers were okay with how things ended, others agreed that the format didn’t serve the central characters and their story well.
Season 3’s production faced challenges after allegations of sexual assault were made against its creator, Neil Gaiman. Gaiman had written every episode of the first two seasons, alongside director Douglass Mackinnon. While he’s still credited with the story for season 3, the script was co-written by Michael Marshall Smith and Peter Atkins, and Rachel Talalay directed the episode. This means the finale had a different creative team compared to the rest of the series.
The show suffered because of the creator’s choices, and viewers strongly disliked how the story concluded for the main characters. It’s unknown how much of the final episode aligned with the original vision, or what a third season of Good Omens might have looked like. Originally, season 3 was intended to have six episodes, but it was shortened after the creator left the project.
The rushed ending of Good Omens season 3 seems to have been affected by the recent accusations against Neil Gaiman and his departure from the show. Many viewers are disappointed with how Aziraphale and Crowley’s story concluded, which is damaging the show’s previously strong reputation. This negative reaction unfortunately gives the series a disappointing ending for many dedicated fans.
