The original inFAMOUS games are beloved PS3 titles, but unfortunately, there aren’t good options for playing them on today’s consoles or computers.
I’m hearing a rumor that Sony’s teaming up with a developer to bring a new game to the PS5. But honestly, it’s just one person’s word right now, and nobody’s been able to confirm it yet, so take it with a grain of salt.
Since the rumors began, fans have pointed out that a 2022 blog post from Sucker Punch has disappeared. The post previously stated they had no plans to make new games in the inFAMOUS or Sly Cooper series, and that no other studio was working on them either. That’s quite a change.
Although we’re generally not fans of remakes, we’d definitely welcome one for inFAMOUS. The original games on the PS3 were good, but a little rough around the edges, and could really benefit from a modern update.
We really liked playing as Cole MacGrath in both Empire City and New Marais, but even at the time, the games didn’t look or run very smoothly. The graphics were a bit blurry and the frame rate wasn’t always consistent.
Updating the game with remakes would improve how it looks and runs, bringing it in line with today’s expectations and ensuring a smooth experience.
The gameplay is already very strong – Sucker Punch consistently delivers satisfying and fluid power fantasies, so major changes aren’t needed. It would be great to see some features that take advantage of the DualSense controller, though.
It’s amazing to think the original inFAMOUS came out in 2009 – that’s almost 17 years ago! The sequel released in 2011 is now 15 years old. This collection likely includes the spin-off game, Festival of Blood, though it isn’t as strong as the main inFAMOUS titles.
Earlier this year, Sony revealed plans to remake the first three God of War games during a presentation, signaling their willingness to revisit popular titles from the PlayStation 2 and 3 era. Many fans have also been requesting a new installment in the inFAMOUS series for a while now.
