From clothing and merchandise to partnerships with brands like McDonald’s and the widespread popularity of its soundtrack, the movie’s impact hasn’t faded – it’s actually gotten stronger. It’s no surprise, then, that Netflix has already announced a follow-up film.
Although a second installment of KPop Demon Hunters is planned but still a few years away, a recent Netflix film has unexpectedly gained popularity, surpassing the musical in some ways. Considering its success, this new movie, like KPop Demon Hunters, clearly warrants a sequel.
Swapped Has Dethroned KPop Demon Hunters
Netflix’s new animated film, Swapped, released on May 1st, achieved a surprising feat: it surpassed KPop Demon Hunters in viewership. From May 4th to May 10th, Swapped garnered 38.7 million views, making it the most-watched movie on Netflix in a single week – exceeding even the peak weekly viewership of KPop Demon Hunters.
While KPop Demon Hunters once reached around 30 million views in a week – a great number – Swapped is now the more popular show.
Swapped Clearly Needs A Sequel
A sequel to KPop Demon Hunters is a natural next step. The movie has been a huge success for Netflix, quickly becoming one of their most popular titles. What makes this even more remarkable is that it’s a musical aimed, in part, at a younger audience. In many ways, KPop Demon Hunters broke the mold and challenged expectations within the film industry.
Given how well Swapped has performed—and with its popularity likely to increase while it’s available on Netflix—a sequel seems like a natural next step. Viewers clearly enjoy this delightful animated film, and Netflix would be smart to build on that success. However, a sequel hasn’t been announced yet.
It’s Still A Little Surprising That Swapped Beat KPop Demon Hunters
Everyone agrees that Swapped is a charming, hilarious, and wonderfully performed movie. Michael B. Jordan, a very talented actor, provides the voice for the main character, Ollie. Still, it’s quite a surprise that Swapped has become more popular than KPop Demon Hunters.
While it’s not Netflix’s biggest hit overall or its most popular animated film yet, Swapped is definitely worth checking out – and deserves a sequel! It’s impressive that it outperformed KPop Demon Hunters in its first week.
