Jools Holland and Squeeze reveal their first performance together in over 30 years wasn’t planned

As a huge fan, I was thrilled to see the original members of the band reunite on BBC television this past Sunday, May 17th, to play their very first single, ‘Take Me I’m Yours.’ It was a really special moment!

Holland recently explained to TopMob that the performance wasn’t intentionally a reunion – it just happened naturally. It wasn’t planned that way at all.

I was so excited to hear him explain why they chose that song! He said ‘Take Me I’m Yours’ was one of the very first songs they ever played together, right when they were starting out. He really emphasized how amazing the song is – that’s why they wanted to perform it on the show, and honestly, I totally agree!

He went on to explain that when the opportunity arose, he called Chris and Glen. They’d had offers before to reunite, some quite substantial, but things had never quite worked out until now.

I hesitantly asked if they’d be interested in joining me for something, not wanting to interrupt or impose, but hoping we could all do something together if they were up for it.

“And they said they would, so that’s how it came together.”

When asked if the performance brought back memories, Squeeze guitarist and songwriter Chris Difford explained that although they weren’t sharing the same space on stage – they were about 15 feet apart – it definitely felt nostalgic. He especially enjoyed the warm feeling of simply being in the same room with the other two band members.

Chris Holland started the band Squeeze in 1974 with Glenn and Chris, but left in 1980. He rejoined the group in 1985 and stayed for another five years.

During the show, Holland spoke with Chris and Glenn Tilbrook about the making of their sixteenth studio album, Trixies, which came out in March. He also welcomed Niall Horan, formerly of One Direction, who performed the title track from his new album, Dinner Party, and debuted another song from the album, Tastes So Good.
