Desperate for money, Lauren Beale (Jacqueline Jossa) has made a very risky decision in EastEnders.
Earlier this year, she took £3,000 raised by the regulars at the Queen Vic for a charity supporting children with vision problems. She felt the money would be better used to fund an experimental treatment for her own son, Jimmy, who is visually impaired, and spent it on the plan.
Little did she realise at the time, this was a sophisticated scam and the money was lost forever.
Mark Fowler (Stephen Aaron-Sipple) suggested they work together at the car lot, where he could find engines and they would share the money they made.
The offer seemed good, but she felt uneasy accepting it, especially so soon after a frightening attack where someone stole her car keys – the keys to a classic car she cherished. The experience had really shaken her, and she was completely unaware that Mark was actually behind the whole thing.

Lauren jumped at the chance, but Callum Highway quickly warned her to be careful because of recent thefts nearby. She felt something wasn’t right with Mark’s offer, so she decided to challenge him about it.
When she walked closer, she saw him talking to the man who had attacked her. She immediately told him their agreement was cancelled, but she’s now having to think about it again.
Mark recently decided to restore old cars and sell them to a dealership. Lauren was happy about the idea, but pointed out they didn’t have room for any more cars on their property.
Facing pressure from a dangerous crime boss who wanted £200,000, he joined forces with his aunt, Sam Mitchell, and deliberately set fire to four people at a quarry in Essex.
Today on the show, Max found out about the car thefts and suspected Lauren might be connected. Lauren insisted she knew nothing about it, but thought Mark could be responsible.
With Sam’s help, they constructed a convincing story about spending the entire evening at a Hackney pub, celebrating Nigel Bates’s life, which established their innocence. Sam then shifted focus to Max, suggesting he might have committed the act to make Lauren look bad.

It was embarrassing for her to question Sam’s idea in front of Max, especially since he was on the verge of giving her half ownership of the company.
Peter Beale told his family that the financial support they received for looking after Jimmy had been stopped. This was because Jimmy’s earnings from his job at the fruit stall and his personal training work had become too high. Peter also learned about a private nursery that could help with Jimmy, but they couldn’t afford the fees.
Unfortunately, she didn’t have any easy way to get money, so she had to ask Mark to reach out to his connection and arrange for more stolen cars to be moved.
Will Lauren and Mark get away with their scheme?
