Released by Dotemu and created by Tribute Games, Marvel Cosmic Invasion has proven popular, attracting 1.5 million players since its launch in late 2025. The game lets you play as a wide variety of Marvel heroes battling Annihilus and his forces from the Negative Zone, offering a fun, classic side-scrolling experience. But the adventure doesn’t end there! Tribute Games is planning to add even more content through downloadable DLC, including new playable heroes.
Fans of the Marvel Universe are in for a treat! A new DLC for Marvel Cosmic Invasion is available today, adding Cyclops and the Thing as playable characters. These heroes bring fresh combat styles and exciting new gameplay. While details are still limited for the next DLC coming this fall – it will include new characters and a game mode – this current update is a must-try for anyone already playing, or thinking of picking up, Marvel Cosmic Invasion. It’s a great addition to the existing team!
Cyclops Is Ready To Blast Off

Cyclops, the newest ranged fighter from the X-Men, is a particularly exciting addition to Marvel Cosmic Invasion. He fights using his signature optic blasts – quick, basic shots, and more powerful, focused blasts that can devastate single enemies or groups. Unlike other characters with some ranged capabilities, Cyclops is built entirely around long-distance combat. He can attack at angles, letting him target flying enemies and effectively defend against incoming attacks.
Cyclops remains a powerful close-range fighter, capable of delivering strong kicks and punches when needed, letting him control the fight. The game balances this power by including enemies who can withstand his attacks, making those encounters challenging. His ultimate ability is visually impressive, clearing the screen of all enemies. While Cyclops isn’t very durable, enemies who can avoid or block his blasts can quickly deplete his health. This encourages players to stay mobile and maintain distance, emphasizing that Cyclops is best played as a long-range fighter in this beat ’em up.
It’s Clobbering Time With The Thing

The first Marvel Cosmic Invasion DLC also introduces Ben Grimm, better known as the Thing from the Fantastic Four. It makes sense that Marvel’s original powerhouse brawler is a strong, close-combat fighter like She-Hulk. But what sets the Thing apart is how surprisingly agile he is. He can take a lot of damage, deliver powerful attacks, and easily grab opponents to launch combos or keep them airborne. His most fun ability lets him curl up into a ball and bounce around, letting him move much faster in the air than you’d expect for someone his size. This keeps him mobile, dealing damage as he bounces between enemies.
Being able to quickly switch between targets is a really helpful ability, especially when dealing with flying enemies that could otherwise overwhelm you. It also gives Thing a special set of powers, making him surprisingly versatile for his size and a great teammate. One of the best parts of Marvel Cosmic Invasion is how the developers at Tribute Games have focused on letting each character use their powers in different ways, ensuring they all feel unique. With so many superheroes potentially feeling similar due to shared power types, it’s great to see that Thing (and Cyclops, too) can stand out as fun and playable characters with a fresh take on combat. As even more characters are added, it’ll be exciting to try out new combinations and see what powerful synergies players can create.
The first downloadable content for Marvel Cosmic Invasion is now released. ComicBook received a copy of the DLC to review.
