After much speculation, Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, has apparently told staff that their story-driven, single-player games will continue to be exclusive to PlayStation consoles.
Video game journalist Jason Schreier shared on Bluesky that a recent company meeting likely means an announcement is coming soon. He previously reported last March that Sucker Punch Productions was planning a PC release for Ghost of Yōtei, but those plans were later cancelled.
It seems a group inside PlayStation was concerned that releasing games on PC could damage the PlayStation brand and reduce sales of the PS5. Sony reportedly made the decision to focus less on PC gaming last year, and sources like NateTheHate have observed a clear change in the company’s priorities.
This confirms that Housemarque’s new game, Saros, and the upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac (scheduled for September 15th) won’t be released on PC. The same applies to Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic, which is currently expected to launch around mid-2027.
This mainly concerns story-driven, single-player games, which are Sony’s biggest sellers. That’s why titles like MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls and Horizon Hunters Gathering were announced for both PC and PlayStation 5. Jason Schreier has reported that Sony might adjust its strategy depending on market conditions, but currently, the company is prioritizing its console players with its most popular games.
PlayStation has announced that all future single-player, story-driven games developed by its internal studios will be exclusive to PlayStation consoles. This confirms a report from Bloomberg earlier this year, and was shared with staff by PlayStation studio head Hermen Hulst during a meeting on Monday.
