Did Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) kill Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) in Coronation Street?
Right now, there’s a lot of proof pointing to her guilt, and George Shuttleworth believes she caused his death.
Last month, after wedding festivities, Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) discovered a body in the backyard of the corner shop. At first, suspicion fell on George, who was missing for a large part of the evening, and then on his girlfriend, Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins).
DC Kit Green believes Gary Windass is the one responsible, but Gary’s wife, Maria Connor, has confirmed his alibi.
George was shocked earlier this week when he discovered a disturbing entry in Summer’s journal. It revealed she’d thought about shooting Theo. Summer had already been acting anxious whenever the murder investigation came up, and had even planned to move to the United States to get away from everything.
She was incredibly angry when she discovered George and Christina were reading her private diary, so she burned it in the backyard.
George pointed out that this detail could have been considered proof, and it made the person’s behavior seem even more suspicious.
Unbeknownst to her, the police were starting to focus their attention on Lisa Connor-Swain. While looking through her wedding pictures with Kit, Lisa noticed a photo of Summer talking to two guests at the party – and Summer was wearing the brooch discovered at Theo’s apartment.
In today’s episode, Summer was whisked into the station and interviewed under caution.
She showed the picture of herself wearing the brooch and wondered how it could have ended up at the crime scene, across the road and upstairs.
Summer claimed she hadn’t taken the item, explaining it must have fallen off during her exit from the wedding and that Theo had found it. Connor-Swain didn’t seem to believe her story, but he let her go.
When Todd Grimshaw returned, he angrily confronted the police officer for involving Summer, claiming she was innocent. He wrongly suspected George of being the one who reported her.
He sincerely apologized for looking through her things, but when she mentioned the brooch, he started to suspect something was wrong again.
George questioned Summer about being at the apartment that night, but she convincingly denied it. We then saw a flashback revealing George had witnessed Summer hurrying away from the corner shop on that same evening.
