THQ Nordic has released Darksiders Warmastered Edition on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, accompanied by a new trailer. Players who already own the PS4 version can upgrade to the current-gen version for $9.99. Xbox One owners will receive the upgrade as a free update.
Players on PlayStation 4 can still purchase Darksiders Warmastered Edition for $19.99. PlayStation 5 owners who don’t have the game yet can buy it for $29.99. Xbox players can upgrade from the Xbox One version to the Xbox Series X/S version for free, but the price of the Xbox One version itself is increasing to $29.99.
The trailer centers around a conversation between the main character, War, and a demon he encounters. The demon asks War a straightforward question: “Would you serve in heaven, or rule in hell?” War replies with a cryptic statement: “I choose what the cowards didn’t.” This dialogue is interspersed with fast-paced gameplay footage from Darksiders Warmastered Edition, showcasing intense boss battles and diverse dungeon environments.
Darksiders Warmastered Edition features several improvements, including smooth 60 frames per second gameplay, native 4K resolution, and a Photo Mode for capturing stunning in-game moments.
I first played Darksiders when it came out back in 2010 on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Then, in 2016, they released the Warmastered Edition, which was a really nice upgrade and came to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and even the Wii U! But honestly, the newer versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S don’t actually add anything new to the game – it’s basically the same experience as the original.
The first Darksiders game follows War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, after a devastating war between Heaven and Hell. Though he survived, War is blamed for starting the conflict too soon. He embarks on a journey to clear his name with the Charred Council and uncover the real culprits who triggered the apocalypse by breaking the Seven Seals.
After a devastating war between heaven and hell, Earth lies in ruins, and most of humanity is gone. Now, angels and demons control different parts of the world, and War must face them as he investigates the remaining mysteries.
Darksiders plays a lot like the classic God of War and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Players will battle enemies in intense combat, but they’ll also need to use their wits to solve puzzles by finding and using new items throughout the game.
Gunfire Games has officially announced that they are developing Darksiders 4 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
