Be warned, this contains spoilers for episode 7 of The Boys season 5. The latest season of The Boys is delivering shocking moments and intense action.
The TV show ‘The Boys’ on Prime Video, based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, has become incredibly popular worldwide. It’s a gritty, adult superhero show about a team of vigilantes taking on the corrupt superheroes and the powerful corporation, Vought, that controls them. As Karl Urban’s character, Butcher, desperately tries to defeat Antony Starr’s terrifying character, Homelander, Homelander’s ego, instability, and immense power only grow.
Prime Video announced that season 5 of The Boys is the most popular season ever, attracting over 55 million viewers. The final season hit 57 million viewers within its first 39 days, placing it among the top 10 most-watched seasons of any original series on Prime Video. Since the premiere of the final season, all five seasons of The Boys have collectively reached over 69 million viewers.
The huge success of the latest season shows that people are still very interested in The Boys, even though it was the last one for the main show. Sadly, its spin-off, Gen V, wasn’t popular enough to continue and has been cancelled after two seasons. But don’t worry, more spin-offs are planned, including a prequel called Vought Rising that will tell the story of Soldier Boy’s beginnings, and a new series set in Mexico called The Boys: Mexico.
The show’s final season has sparked a lot of debate online, particularly because it’s significantly different from the original comic books and fans are eager to see how the story wraps up. Showrunner Eric Kripke has explained that Soldier Boy’s story concluded in episode 7, meaning Homelander’s father won’t get what he wanted – and it’s safe to say his plans were far from heroic – as he’ll be frozen in a cryo chamber instead.
A big source of disappointment for fans is the cancellation of Gen V, which the showrunner fought to prevent. Sadly, the characters from Gen V, like Marie Moreau played by Jaz Sinclair, won’t get a proper ending in the final episode of The Boys.
We don’t think you’ve seen the last of those characters. Their story isn’t finished in ‘The Boys’; we’ve left things open for them to continue having adventures. They still have personal growth to experience, and that was a deliberate choice. We’re hoping to explore those possibilities further in the future.
As a huge fan, I was really hoping for more, and honestly, the team and I did everything we could to make it happen. It’s just one of those situations where things didn’t quite work out the way we planned, but we really gave it our all to keep the story going.
The Boys is available to watch on Prime Video.
