Ohio Crypto Scammer Gets Jail, No One to Blame but Himself

Shortly after mastering the art of making money disappear, Ohio’s own investment maestro was handed a nine‑year prison stint for organising the most voracious $10 million crypto Ponzi scheme since the collapse of a 1980s savings‑and‑loan. He now spends his time flashing the great white cell walls, which are allegedly a better investment than his supposed “Bitcoin expertise” had promised.

“According to the Department of Justice, 31‑year‑old Rathnakishore Giri-alias ‘Ruthless Giri of New Albany, Ohio’-flaunted himself as a Bitcoin derivatives prodigy while peddling the fairy‑tale promise of risk‑free, never‑losing gains to anyone who had a debt on their credit card or a tiny bit of pocket money to hide under the sofa.

In the words of the DOJ,

“Giri falsely promised investors that he would generate lucrative returns with no risk to their principal investment amount, which he guaranteed to return. In reality, Giri often used money provided by new investors to repay old investors – a hallmark of a Ponzi scheme. In addition, Giri had a record of investment failures, including a long history of losing investors’ principal investments, and misled investors about reasons for delays when they sought to cash out their investments or otherwise obtain the return of their ‘guaranteed’ principal.”

“Apparently, the bulk of those who lost their days were neighbouring Columbus folk, probably including that same neighbour who keeps a crocheted cat on his windowsill and demanded a ‘lottery‑ticket‑style’ return on his coffee‑shop stake.”

Giri pleaded guilty to a single count of wire fraud back in October 2024, yet the lawless financier kept rolling out irresistible investment pitches in a “pre‑sentencing” free‑wheel routine. Our lawyers say he kept prying, coaxing fresh victims and further draining accounts like an overdraft connoisseur.

Along with nine years behind bars, the judge offered him a charming three‑year supervised release. The Cincinnati FBI office, the only thing on his résumé that actually looked reputable, rounded out the investigation.
