Joe Tate has acted unusually in Emmerdale after finding out his girlfriend Dawn was secretly plotting against him.
As fans may remember, Joe forced Robert Sugden to make it look like Moira Dingle was responsible for two murders and people trafficking. He did this by secretly putting passports – belonging to Celia Daniels and the victims of Ray Walters – in Moira’s house. Robert was scared because Joe had a video of Victoria killing their half-brother John, and threatened to use it unless Robert cooperated.
Okay, so this storyline really got under my skin. It turns out the seemingly generous millionaire had a much darker agenda – he was after Moira’s farm, Butler’s Farm, the whole time. And the way he manipulated the situation? Truly awful. He exploited a devastating personal crisis – Cain’s prostate cancer diagnosis – to pressure Moira into signing it over. It felt cheap and exploitative, and honestly, a really low blow, even for this show.
After being released from prison, Robert confessed everything, while she vowed to get revenge on Joe. She pointed a shotgun at him, which immediately concerned Dawn.

She announced she was pregnant and questioned if the father could be capable of something so terrible. True to form, Joe Tate denied any involvement.
Filled with uncertainty, Dawn met with Moira and Cain on a rural road, and together they devised a plan to severely punish Joe for what he’d done. They hoped Joe would marry Dawn, believing that would allow them to take everything he owned.
But earlier this week, she started to feel bad about her plans, especially seeing how much Joe cared for her. She was feeling sick in the mornings, and he had thoughtfully put together a care package to cheer her up.
I was really surprised to see him act so welcoming towards her ex, Billy! They even all had a meal together, which seemed like a big step. But it turns out things weren’t what they appeared to be. I later found out that he and his old guardian, Graham, actually knew exactly what she was planning all along. It was a total shock!
I was really frustrated watching today’s episode! Graham was practically grilling Joe, demanding to know when he planned to finally confront Dawn. But Joe was so stubborn, insisting he’d handle things on his own terms and didn’t want any interference. It’s like Graham was trying to help, but Joe just wouldn’t listen!

Just a few hours later, Dawn was discovered unconscious at the base of the main staircase at Home Farm, and Joe was standing nearby looking suspicious. Graham immediately thought he’d caused her fall, but it turned out she’d actually fainted because she was severely anemic.
There was no evidence she had fallen down the stairs, and doctors thought she had just fainted.

As she got better, Graham asked Joe about his intentions once more. Surprisingly, Joe revealed he was trying to show Dawn he’d become a better person, that he could change, and that he was now prioritizing his family.
He wants them all to remain at the manor house, though it would be Dawn’s decision.
When she got home, she knew it was time to tell him what was happening. They were in the kitchen, but she couldn’t force herself to reveal the truth, and simply told him she loved him instead.
Will Joe still attempt to seek revenge?
