The upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, will feature a wide range of villains. While many appear to be minor, one antagonist could become a major player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first trailer suggests both familiar and new villains will appear, including Boomerang and Tarantula making their MCU debuts. However, one of these villains from Brand New Day might prove to be a significant force in future Marvel stories.
Following the dramatic ending of No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day will show Peter Parker back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But things are different this time – nobody remembers Peter, so he’s lost all his friends and allies from the previous movies. This means Spider-Man will be operating as a solo hero, without the help of the Avengers. And he’ll need to rely on himself, because it looks like he’s about to face more dangerous villains than ever before.
The Hand Will Return In Brand New Day (& They Can Bring People Back To Life)

The Hand, a dangerous ninja group, is back in the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline, and their return could have major consequences for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They first appeared in the Netflix series Daredevil, where they were shown working with Kingpin. But the Defenders series showed that The Hand has much larger, more mystical goals based on their comic book origins. Although they were defeated in The Defenders, they’ve already been spotted in the trailer for Brand New Day, suggesting they’re not gone for good.
This time around, The Hand look much more like their comic book counterparts, now dressed in vibrant red robes. It’s unclear why Spider-Man will be battling them, or how they’ve returned, but their comeback is sure to significantly affect the franchise. The Hand are well-known in Marvel comics for bringing characters back to life, and this could happen again, potentially echoing the Brand New Day storyline. The MCU version of The Hand has already demonstrated this ability by resurrecting Elektra in The Defenders, establishing it as part of the official continuity.
The trailer for Brand New Day hints at themes of death and renewal, suggesting these will be central to the film’s plot. Therefore, it’s logical that a ninja group known for overcoming death – the Hand – will be a significant element. Beyond their skills in combat, the Hand could have a major impact on the story, and a connection to Aunt May seems like the most likely path for that to happen.
Aunt May’s death in No Way Home deeply affected Peter, serving a similar purpose to Uncle Ben’s death in other Spider-Man stories. This loss led Peter down a difficult path and likely contributes to his current loneliness in Brand New Day. Now, with the mysterious group known as the Hand involved, Peter might discover a way to bring May back to life. This possibility could become a central struggle for Peter in the film, suggesting the Hand will have a bigger role than what the trailers have shown.
Who Else Could The Hand Resurrect In The MCU?

It’s unlikely the Hand will be gone for good after Brand New Day, with rumors suggesting the ninjas will reappear in season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again. If the Hand survives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, their power to resurrect people could bring back almost any character – even heroes like Iron Man and Captain America, or villains from past Marvel movies. However, bringing characters back from the dead would be a huge deal, and many fans who only know the movies might not understand the Hand’s role in making that happen, so it’s probably not going to happen.
It’s more probable that the Hand organization will reintroduce characters connected to Daredevil. If they appear in season 3, Elektra could return, picking up her storyline from The Defenders. Foggy Nelson is another possibility, as his death has been a significant plot point in Born Again from the very beginning. Now that they’re all tied to the Hand through their original Netflix series, any other character who died in the Defenders universe could also make a comeback.
The Hand’s ability to potentially eliminate death within the Marvel Cinematic Universe could fundamentally change the franchise, meaning no character would ever truly be gone. While this might lessen the sense of danger in future stories, it’s likely to be a major consequence of the events in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
