EastEnders star Alice Haig addresses possible Sharon Watts return for Vicki and Ross’s wedding

Wedding fever is on the horizon in EastEnders, though there could be one notable absence.

As a long-time viewer, I was really interested to hear Alice Haig, who plays Vicki Fowler, talk about whether Sharon Watts might come back for Vicki’s wedding. It’s exciting to think Letitia Dean could reappear for such a big event!

For much of the past year, Sharon has been visiting her friend Michelle Fowler, who lives in Florida. She left after Martin Fowler’s funeral, telling her family she needed time and space to deal with her grief.

Last September, she returned after learning that Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) had come back to Walford and was looking for the son she shared with her late husband, Dennis Rickman.

Sharon remained deeply angry with Zoe, still believing Zoe was responsible for her father Den’s death twenty years ago. Despite this, she agreed to pay for a private investigator, hoping the investigator finding a missing child could help restore some of her father Dennis’s reputation.

Vicki was going through a difficult time. She was attacked by Joel Marshall, the troubled son of her fiancé, Ross. To help her recover, Sharon took her away for a break in the Lake District.

Vicki came back by herself and said Sharon was furious to find out Zoe had lied about Dennis being the father. As a result, Sharon was taking away the money for the private investigator.

Okay, so everyone’s talking about the wedding coming up in Walford, and I’m seriously wondering if Sharon will just… leave? Like, take off somewhere completely unexpected? It feels like she might, you know?

“Wouldn’t that be lovely,” Haig told TopMob and other media.

“I think Vicki is going to need all the family she can get.”

As fans are aware, the wedding won’t go as planned. After seeing Vicki walk down the aisle, Ross will directly ask her if she’s been unfaithful with Sharon’s half-brother, Zack Hudson (played by James Farrar).

It’s a wedding that will surely go down in the soap history books!

If Sharon is unable to travel across the Atlantic, Vicki is lucky to have the support of her great aunt Kathy Beale, played by Gillian Taylforth, and her brother Mark, played by Stephen Aaron-Sipple.

According to Haig, Kathy is incredibly proactive and always prepared. He described seeing her early on the morning of the wedding, already handling details like setting up the marquee and arranging the flowers, and she even had a clipboard to stay organized.

“She’s providing a lot of support for Vicki.”

What really struck me was the sense of community surrounding this wedding. It wasn’t just about the couple; everyone was pitching in! They’ve got Mark, of course, and even Ian was there helping out – it was a really tight-knit group all working together to make the day special. You could really feel the support and love from everyone involved.

Vicki finds herself caught between Ross and Zack once more, and Haig is wondering which one her other self would choose.

It’s a joy working with both actors. We’ve built a really close, family-like atmosphere on the set of No 43, and the three of us genuinely have fun filming together, she said.

I believe Ross is a good match for her. However, Joel is causing a lot of problems in their relationship, and it’s hard to imagine them overcoming that.

She believes Zack gave Vicki crucial support after what happened with Joel. Vicki eventually realizes, particularly right before the wedding, that Zack helped her in ways Ross simply couldn’t, because Ross was too involved with the situation surrounding Joel.

She feels indebted to both of them, and she’s torn because she’s attracted to Zack – it’s easy to see why anyone would be!
