I recently had the pleasure of witnessing the premiere in Japan of the much-anticipated “Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle” film on July 18th this year. Although it’s currently gracing Japanese cinema screens, fans across the globe are still anxiously waiting for its official release in their own countries. As the first installment of a trilogy, this movie promises to showcase battles between Demon Slayers and Upper Rank demons. With the film’s marketing campaign in high gear, exciting new previews are being unveiled, such as those shown at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 from time to time. The latest sneak peek features Tanjiro Kamado and Giyu Tomioka collaborating to take on Akaza, one of the Upper Rank Three demons.
In the film “Infinity Train,” Akaza was swiftly embraced by fans as a memorable antagonist. His epic battle with Kyojuro Rengoku is often cited as one of the series’ most thrilling scenes, culminating in the Flame Hashira’s tragic death. Tanjiro bore witness to these events, and it’s clear he harbors resentment towards Akaza due to what transpired with Kyojuro. Their paths will cross once more within the Infinity Castle, and Akaza is noticeably eager for a rematch against the young Demon Slayer. The artwork also hints at Giyu siding with Tanjiro, marking their first joint battle in tandem.
Tanjiro and Giyu Vs. Akaza Will Be the Best Demon Slayer Fight
One key character in this series is Giyu, who plays a pivotal role, particularly as he sets important events in motion. After Tanjiro lost his family and the only remaining member, Nezuko Kamado, transformed into a demon, Giyu provided them hope when they were on the brink of despair. Initially intending to slay Nezuko, he found her unique and guided the siblings towards Urokodaki, an old Water Hashira, who taught Tanjiro sword fighting and the breathing technique called Total Concentration. Later, Tanjiro joined the Demon Slayer Corps and pursued his mission to discover a remedy that would transform Nezuko back into a human.
Conversely, as Water Hashiras, Giyu and Tanjiro seldom got chances to collaborate on missions prior to the Mount Natagumo Storyline. However, more often than not, it was Giyu who rescued Tanjiro, given that the boy had sustained heavy injuries from his encounters with the Lower Five. During this particular story arc, Tanjiro initially utilized his Sun Breathing Technique, but he lacked the strength to fight alongside Giyu on equal terms. However, since the Infinity Train Arc, Tanjiro’s progress has been quite remarkable, and it’s evident that he has made significant strides since then.
The struggle against Akaza marks the peak of Tanjiro’s evolution as a Demon Slayer. Simultaneously, it holds significance for Giyu, who managed to discard his emotional burdens due to encouragement from Tanjiro during the Hashira Training Arc. Now, these two characters engage in combat against one of the most potent demons, providing each other with essential support. As they surpass their boundaries against this demon, we will delve deeper into the enigma that is Akaza, a character introduced several years ago but still shrouded in mystery.
