3 Anime Almost Done Adapting Their Source Material (& Likely to Stick the Landing)

It’s rare for an anime to fully adapt its original story, but three series are nearing that accomplishment with high quality. Many anime get cancelled or stalled before finishing the source material. Others change the story, which often upsets fans – as seen with shows like The Promised Neverland and Tokyo Ghoul.

It’s always a great feeling when an anime truly does its source material justice – especially after seeing adaptations fall short. Some of the most popular shows, like Mob Psycho 100 and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, have managed to pull it off beautifully. And right now, a lot of other series are working towards a complete and faithful adaptation of their manga. Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man are still in progress, but they’re getting so close, and I’m optimistic they’ll succeed in fully adapting their stories.

3) Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War

When the original Bleach anime finished in 2012, the manga was still being published, and the early chapters provided a complete foundation for the story, despite some filler episodes. Then, six years after the manga concluded in 2016, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War adapted the final story arc. This new series benefits from a faster pace and improved animation, staying very close to the original manga and even improving upon it in certain areas. Now that Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War has finished with Part 4, it’s clear the anime will cover the entire manga story. Given the high quality of the first three parts, we can expect a satisfying conclusion.

2) My Hero Academia: Vigilantes

While a third season of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes hasn’t been confirmed, it would only take one more season to finish adapting the manga. Given the anime’s popularity and the main My Hero Academia series ending in December 2025, it seems unlikely Studio Bones would cancel it, especially since Season 2 could offer a good conclusion for Koichi’s story. Vigilantes is a natural fit to continue the franchise, and abandoning it now would be a waste, particularly because the adaptation is nearly complete and stays true to the original manga. The remaining story arcs are packed with exciting action and emotional moments that fans would love to see animated.

1) Demon Slayer

Though Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man are still ongoing, Demon Slayer is nearing its conclusion – and its ending is confirmed, we just don’t know exactly when it will arrive. The final chapters of the story will be adapted into three movies, with the first, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle, already released to great success. Many consider it one of the best anime films of 2025, and it beautifully brings Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga to life. We can expect the next two films to be just as good, though fans will likely have to wait a couple of years to see Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps again.
