Power Rangers’ New Green Ranger Series Reveals A Very Different Tommy (And An Even Wilder Goldar)

Power Rangers fans have a lot to look forward to this year! There will be new shows focusing on the original team, as well as a series exploring the entire 30+ year history of the franchise. The most intriguing new show centers around the Green Ranger, and a recent preview gives us a good look at what to expect. It features a unique take on Tommy Oliver and an even more surprising version of Goldar.

BOOM! Studios has shared a first look at their new comic, Power Rangers Green (reported by ICv2), which quickly reintroduces Tommy Oliver as the Green Ranger. A striking detail is that Tommy now lives inside the head of the Dragonzord. He’s also shown living with his children, Mirella Vex and Alpha. But the biggest surprise comes with the redesigned Goldar, who now has a look combining parts of his original gold armor with more animalistic pieces and a robotic arm. You can see these new designs and a full preview below.

Everything We Know About Power Rangers Green

We’re still learning about the current situation, but the preview gives us some important background. Right now, Tommy is the last person who was a Ranger, though Alpha points out he mostly focuses on gathering food and maintaining their base, rather than actively being a Ranger.

Mirella Vex communicates using sign language, and occasionally seems to become lost in thought. When this happens, Alpha catches her, and Tommy uses his Dragon Dagger to help her return to the present. Once she’s back, she immediately senses the danger – which turns out to be Goldar.

Alpha explains he always tries to assist Tommy, mentioning that Tommy actually discovered him trapped in a strange energy field under the desert near Angel Grove. While helping Tommy, Alpha also lets slip that he’s waiting for someone named Mirella, which is immediately interrupted by the arrival of Goldar.

Okay, so Goldar shows up looking a little roughed up, but don’t let that fool you – he’s still a formidable opponent. The big twist? He’s not here to fight, he needs Tommy’s help! What exactly is he asking for? Well, the story’s keeping that a secret for now, but thankfully we won’t have to wait too long to find out – the new series drops later this year.

Power Rangers Green #1 hits comic stores on August 5, 2026.
