Xbox Adds Two New Heavy Hitters to Its Leadership Team

Xbox is making a big push to regain its position in the gaming market. As reported by The Game Business, they’ve recently appointed Matthew Ball as Chief Strategy Officer and Scott Van Vliet as Chief Technology Officer to help lead this effort.

Ball brings a strong background to his new role, with experience at Amazon Studios, as CEO of Epyllion, and in the investment world. He’ll likely use these skills to address the challenges facing Xbox, which he’s previously acknowledged were significant. Given his work on the respected State of Video Gaming report and his reputation as an industry analyst, we’re confident he can succeed.

Van Vliet brings experience with Microsoft tools like Azure and Teams, as well as from working in the gaming industry with Amazon. He’s previously contributed to popular games such as Cut the Rope and Fruit Ninja. Now, he’ll be helping to improve how Xbox products are developed and released, a job he’s likely to enjoy given the exciting technology behind Project Helix.

Asha Sharma, CEO, has recently made several leadership changes, and the appointments of Ball and Vliet are the latest. Other recent moves include Jared Palmer as VP of Xbox engineering, Jonathan McKay leading Xbox Growth, and Tim Allen as CVP of Xbox Design. Jason Ronald now leads Project Helix and the overall Xbox platform, while Kevin Gammill has left his role as CVP of the Xbox gaming ecosystem.
